Today I noticed some mothballs in a market and it says on the label that the product contains 80% hexachloroethane and 20% naphtalene. Because the compounds could be easily separated and it says in the "college dictionary chemistry" book that HCE is used in explosives I would want to have some more information about HCE.

What for is it used in explosives? Maybe for lethal gases?

PS. And yeah I couldn't find anything related

It could be detonated if mixed with Al or Mg powder, due to the oxidising properties of chlorine.

C2Cl6 + 3Mg --> 3MgCl2 + 2C

so if you also mixed it with some oxidiser such as NH4NO3 then oxygen would be provided for the oxidation of the carbon produced also.
