Guide to Turning in Warez Servers This guide will teach you how to turn in a Warez server. But first I need to set some ground rules. ESPA goes Apple Warez carrying servers first and all others second. So do it in that order and don't be a loose canon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- #1 Picking a Server go into your HL options and change your tracker to tracked.dyn.ml.org or whatever's in the biggest at the time of reading this. Then reload the tracker. Search down the tracker and find a target that seems worthwhile. #2 Getting the Servers Address To get the servers address simple click on the site once. Hold down option and double click it. A little login window pops up with the ip of the server. #3 Doing a name lookup To report a server you must no who the server operator is getting their Internet connection from. To do this we do a name lookup. Say the address you see on the login window is 157.22.193.1:5500 If you see a : and a few #s after it delete those and copy the rest. Then open up Agnet tools. From the menu bar select Tool and go to name lookup. Paste in the server address you just got. Now hit return and the ip is turned into a name. #4 Turning pm-n1-1.napanet.net into napanet.net My address turned into pm-n1-1.napanet.net but that wont do us any good. We need a address that we can send an e-mail to and most ISPs have one word names fallowed by .net or .com. So in pm-n1-1.napanet.net we notice a lot of crap and then the address of the ISP. So delete everything right to the "." and you'll get the address napanet.net #5 Finding who to e-mail Your best bet is actually mailing the report to the wrong address knowing that the owner wrong address will forward it to the right guy and save you an hour of searching a web site. So who's that wrong address webmaster@theisp.com, but most ISPs have a person who just deals with abuse so sending the mail to abuse@theisp.com will work 99.9% of the time. #6 What to Send Here is a message I use. All you have to do is fill in the blanks and your set. it's best if you store it in the note pad for easy retrieval. --------------------- I think this is the person to mail this to but a user with the ip# of ((IP HERE) is transferring Warez over the Internet through the Hotline client and server technology available at www.hotlinesw.com His server is called (((NAME))) and the operator has many commercial software packages that he is offering for free. The server is running on port 5500 and was up as of (((TIME AND DATE))) (Time Zone). I will contact the SPA on your failer to deal with the situation if nothing is done. --------------------- Where it says ((IP HERE) put the ip of the server where it says (((NAME))) put the Name in the tracker Where it says (((TIME AND DATE))) & (Time Zone) put the time date and your time zone if you don't put the time zone your screwed because some servers only stay up for 1 or 2 hours at a time #7(((((Important)))) If there was a : with a few #s after it in the ip you got off the tracker get those #s and fill them in where it says on port 5500. 5500 is the standard port for Hotline but some servers don't use it. #8 Send the mail -------------- Copyright Tim Smith, and York 1998
