This is about the time I decided to become a 'serious' collector, and started searching for older issues. I started collecting the questions and answers on the mailing list, then added more information gathered primarily from the 40th and 35th anniversary issues. Most of the information from the anniversary issues falls into the 'interesting fact' category, rather than the 'frequently asked questions' category. If you know of an interesting fact that is not included, please let me know. If it is of general interest, I'll include it (ie the first Irish born Playmate with gray eyes who was over 5' 6" tall and loved dogs is a little bit too specific). * About the Playboy Mailing List Contact: playboy-request@lovesexy.com (Peggy Wilkins) Purpose: Whether you're a collector, a fan, or just a casual reader, the Playboy Mailing List offers much to the man or woman who reads Playboy. As a discussion list concerning itself with Playboy Magazine and Playboy Enterprises, Inc., virtually any related topic is appropriate, including, but not limited to: collecting info, trade/sale/wanted posts, PEI business news, Hef sightings, product reviews (any media), critical review & analysis, intelligent appreciation and examination of the Playboy lifestyle, and of course news about all your favorite Playmates. ;) To subscribe, send an email message to playboy-request@lovesexy.com with the word "subscribe" in the Subject: field of your message. NOTE : At Playboy's request, the Playboy Mailing List FTP site no longer contains copies of images from the Playboy Web Page. For more information, you could also check out the PML Web site, at : - About alt.mag.playboy alt.mag.playboy is a USENET newsgroup dedicated to the discussion of Playboy Magazine. I'm not sure who created it, so I can't say too much about it. It is an completely umoderated group, so the messages are often less sophisticated that those on the mailing list. Recently it has become a very popular place to find adds for Playboy back issues for sale, or wanted. - About the Playboy Collectors Association. I only just recently discovered the Playboy Collectors Association. It was started in 1987 by Tom Bonner. The main purpose of the PCA is to help promote the hobby and give information to collectors on buying and selling Playboy Memorabilia. Anyone having questions on selling their early issues or Playboy Memorabilia can write PCA with a self-addressed envelope. PCA will help try to find a buyer, either through other collectors or other dealers. Playboy Memorabilia includes items from the catalogs, clubs or casinos and magazines from 1953 through 1955. Information on joining the Playboy Collectors Association, receiving the PCA newsletter, and buying other guides can be obtained by also sending a self addressed envelope to : : Tom Bonner : PO Box 653 : Phillipsburg, MO 65722-0653 - About Playboy Magazine and Playboy Enterprises, Inc. Playboy Magazine was founded by Hugh Hefner. The first issue was published in November of 1953. The issue had no date on it, as Mr. Hefner was unsure if there would ever be a second issue. Luckily there was. It is now a monthly publication from Playboy Enterprises, Inc. It is self-billed as "Entertainment for Men" and features articles on a wide variety of issues; reviews of movies, books, music, cars, sports and new gadgets; interesting and in-depth interviews; and last, but not least, pictorials of beautiful women. Eventually, Playboy branched out and published books, videos, special pictorial issues, and more recently, designer apparel. * About the Playboy World Wide Web Site The Playboy home page contains excerpts from the Dear Playboy, Movie Reviews, Book Reviews, Playboy Advisor and miscellaneous quotes from the various other articles and features. It also contains the full text of selected Playboy interviews, which change periodically. Starting with the December 1994 Playmate Elisa Bridges, each Playmate has a page dedicated to her. These pages ususally contain a blurb about the Playmate, an inline, rated PG-13 JPEG, and a link for downloading an unpublished nude JPEG of the Playmate. Some pages also include digitized signatures and sound clips. And finally, there are links to The Playboy Catalog and a page describing the various Playboy email addresses. The Playboy Home Page can be found at . --------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions about Playboy ----------------------- - Is Playboy obscene/pornography? Oh no you don't. I'm not even gonna touch that one. Obscenity and pornography are both subjective labels, and each person must make that decision for themselves. If it could be determined objectively, you wouldn't be asking me. - Are there databases of [playmates/articles/books/videos]? If you have the money to spend, Bob Chatham and Paul Hugli maintain the "Destiny Reference Guide." Volume 1 covers Playboy magazine from December 1953 through June 1992, including Playmates, Pictorials, Articles and Interviews. Volume 2 covers Centerfolds and models appearances in calendars, videos, specials, movies and television programs. They are both printed on 8.5"x11" paper with plastic spiral binding. They are also available in database form. Both volumes are available from Ken Ritchie (see Apendix B) : Volume 1 is $25, Volume 2 is $20. The database is $250, and is only available directly from : : Paul Hugli : 9440 Nichols : Bellflower, CA 90706 If you are interested in an electronic version, but do not have the $250 for the Destiny Reference, you can try the mailing list FTP site. Several people on the mailing list are trying to create various databases, but they are all still very incomplete. A list of available files is at : - I heard Playboy wasn't Hefner's first choice as a name. What was? Hefner originally intended the magazine to be called "Stag Party" but switched to Playboy when Stag Magazine threatened legal action. - When was the first issue of Playboy published? The first issue was published in December 1953, although the issue had no date. - Why can't I find the March 1955 issue of Playboy? Because there isn't one. Playboy was not able to meet the publishing deadline for the March issue, so they published the late March issue as the April issue and have continued to publish issues a month early every since then. * How much is the (month year) issue of Playboy worth? That depends on the issue and the condition of the magazine. A copy of the first issue can run as high as $8,000 (near mint condition) or as low as $500 (fair/poor condition). Appendix C of this FAQ contains a list of reputable dealers and their Price lists. These lists can give you an idea of how much you would pay for a particular issue. Of course, don't expect to be able to sell an issue for the listed price, especially issues from after the 1960s. There are several book and guides available. The most up to date is "Playboy Magazine Price Guide and Checklist" from the Playboy Collectors Association. This simple guide is obviously not done by a professional publisher, but is nonetheless the most current and complete guide. It contains thumb-nail photos of each centerfold (black and white photocopied) from December 1953 through December 1976 and each cover from December 1953 through December 1963. It lists the price of each issues in Fine, Very Good and Good condition. It is $8.95 and is available from Ken Ritchie (see appendix C) or directly from PCA : : Playboy Collector Association : PO Box 653 : Phillipsburg, MO 65722-0653 "The Playboy Collectors Guide and Price List 6th edition" Published and distributed by Budget Enterprises P.O. Box 592, Snowdon Station, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, H3X 3T7. This is a professionally done paperback book, 383 pages long. It is a comprehensive guide specifically for Playboy collectors. It also contains black and white thumb-nail photos of each cover, and lists the feature articles, pictorial and interviews for every issue from December 1953 through December 1983. This would be invaluable if it were more up to date. As a guide to collecting, though, it has no equal. The Collectors Guide and Price List is available from Ken Ritche (see Appendix C) for $9. - What are those stars on the cover inside or next to the 'P' in the Playboy? Popular rumor was that the number of stars represented either the number of times Hugh Hefner had slept with the Playmate of the Month, or his rating of how good she was in bed. Officially, however, the start represent the advertising region for that magazine. If you find the same issue with a different number of stars, you will notice that some of the advertisements are different. There were 13 regions, including Chicago Metropolitan, New York Metropolitan, Southern California, Northern California, Central, Eastern, Western, Southeastern, Southwestern, Canada, International, United Kingdom and Military. The last issue with the stars was September 1979 - Where can I get Playboy products? Contact Playboy at 1-800-423-9494 and request a current copy of their catalog. They only sell Playboy Products inside the U.S., their territories and Canada, supposedly because of too many problems with customs, duty, etc. For memorabilia (stuff advertised in older issues), try Ken Ritchie (see Appenix C). - How can I change my subscription address? You may be able to do it over the phone, at the customer service number below, but I've never tried it. The cover on each issues says to cut out your current mailing label and return it, along with your new address, to : : Playboy Enterprises, Inc. : PO Box 2007 : Harlan, Iowa 51593-0222 : 1-800-999-4438 (Customer Service, 9am-7pm Eastern) - Where should I send letters to Playboy? Other clubs included : Chicago, Miami, New Orleans, St. Louis, New York, Phoenix, Detroit, Manila, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Francisco, Ocho Rios Jamaica, Boston, London, Montreal, Denver, Lake Geneva Wisconson, Great Gorge NJ, Clermont UK, Portsmouth UK, Manchester UK, Tokyo, Dallas, Osaka Japan, Bahamas, Nagoya Japan, Sapporo Japan, Atlantic City, Buffalo, St. Petersburg, San Diego, Lansing, Colombus OH, Des Moines. - Wasn't there a Playboy TV/radio show? Yes, Playboy's Penthouse (TV) was first broadcast on October 24, 1959, and lasted for two seasons. Playboy Table Talk (radio) was broadcast in Chicago on WCFL in 1964. Playboy After Dark ran in 1969. There was a radio show called The Playboy Advisor on Westwood in the seventies. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions about Hugh Hefner --------------------------- - How old is Hugh Hefner? That depends on what today is. He was born on April 9, 1926 so that would make him 69 as of this version of the FAQ. - Is he really a genius? My dictionary defines a genius as "a person having extraordinaryily high intelligence, esp. one with an I.Q. of 140 or above." So if the Playboy press releases stating he has an I.Q. of 152 are correct, then yes, he is a genius. - Who are some of his romantic interests? In June 1949, before he started Playboy, he married a classmate from Northwestern University, Mildred Williams. They were married for 10 years. The Playboy Book lists several women as 'interests,' 'important' or some such description, including Joyce Nizzari, Barbi Benton, Karen Christy, Donna Michelle and Sondra Theodore. Carrie Leigh sued him for palimony in 1988, after their four year relationship went sour (she eventually dropped the lawsuit). On July 1, 1989, he married Kimberly Conrad at the Playboy Mansion West. She appeared in a special pictorila as the "Playmate for a Lifetime." * Does he have any kids? Yes, he has several. His first marriage (to Mildred Williams) produced a daughter, Christie (born in 1952), and son, David (born in 1955). His second marriage (to Kimberly Conrad) has (so far!) produced two sons, Marston (born in 1990) and Cooper (born in 1991). Around 1984, he accepted a young man named Mark as his son, based on the mother and the birthday of the boy. However, later tests proved that Mark was not his son. - Hasn't he been arrested a couple of times? He was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for the January 1958 pictorial of Elizabeth Ann Roberts, who was not yet 18 when she posed for Playboy. The charges were later dropped. He was arrested for obscenity for the June 1963 pictorial "The Nudest Jayne Mansfield." The trial ended with a hung jury. - Does he really have an animal species named after him? Yes, there is a species of endangered marsh rabbits named Sylvilagus palustris hefneri. + Where does he live? The original Playboy Mansion, which has been converted into condos, was at 1340 N. State Street. I'm looking for info on where he lives now, and other past homes. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Questions about Playmates ------------------------- - Was ever a Playmate of the Month? The PML ftp site has a file containing the names and available statistics on all Playmates through August, 1994. : - How can I write my favorite Playmate? Send you letter (remember to include a return address) to : : : Miss Miss : c/o Playboy Photo Dpt. c/o Playmate Promotions : 680 N. Lake Shore Drive 9242 Beverly Bouldvard : Chicago, IL 60611 Beverly Hills, CA 90210 Also, email sent to photo@playboy.com will be printed and forwarded to the apropriate Playmate (no e-mail responses, so you still need to include a snail-mail return address). + Do you have any statistics on Playmates? Sure do, complements of Mark Tomolson. Thanks, Mark! BY THE NUMBERS - through Stacy Sanches, March 1995 Two things to keep in mind: 1) Not all Playmates before the data sheets started with Sondra Theodore in July, 1977 had their measurements published. The figures represent those who did, and are limited to U.S. Playmates. 2) Read the beginning of the human measurements section in the Guiness Book of World Records about the accuracy of human dimensional claims when there is a buck to be made. WEIGHT Lightest Playmate: 94 pounds - Shannon Long, October 1988 Heaviest Playmate: 140 pounds - Anna Nicole Smith, May 1992 Most common weight: 110 pounds Average weight: 113 pounds HEIGHT Shortest Playmate: 59 inches (4'11") : Sue WIlliams, April 1965 : Karla Conway, April 1966 Tallest Playmate: 73 inches (6'1") - Susan Miller, September 1972 Most common height: 67 inches (5'7") Avereage height: 66.2 inches (5'6.2") BUST Smallest bust measurement: 32" : Karen Elaine Morton, July 1978 : Anne-Marie Fox, February 1982 : Anna Clark, April 1987 (32 D) : Sharry Konopski, August 1987 (32 DD) : Jennifer LaVoie, August, 1993 (32 D) : Maria Checa, August 1994 (32 C) Largest bust measurement: 41" - Rosemarie Hillcrest, October 1964 Most common bust measurement: 36" Average bust measurement: 35.6" CUP SIZE While many before and every Playmate since July 1977 has had her measurements published, publishing the cup size has been much more random (only 36 times), and the data are less representative. For example, although there have been Playmates who appear to be less than a B cup, no cup size less than a B has been listed. Smallest cup: B (see above) Largest cup: DD Most common cup: C WAIST Smallest waist: 18 inches - Michelle Winters, September 1962 Largest waist: 27 inches - Saskia Linssen, June 1991 Most common waist measurement: 24 inches Average waist measurement: 23.2 inches HIPS Smallest hips: 32 inches -(17 Playmates) Largest Hips: 39 inches - Unne Terjesen, July 1962 Most common hip measurement: 34 inches Average hip measurement: 34.7 inches - How much do the Playmates get paid to pose? Playmates get $20,000, the Playmate of the Year gets $100,000. Don't quote me on the rest, but someone told me that for non Playmate pictorials, girls selected to pose clothed get $100; semi-clothed brings $250; and nude is $500. - Who was the first Playmate of the Month? The first centerfold was Marilyn Monroe, but she was called the "Sweetheart of the Month." The first centerfold to actually be called the Playmate of the Month was Margie Harrison, in the January 1954 issue. - How has the centerfold evolved over the years? The first two centerfolds were only single page photographs. The third issue, February 1954, was the first two-page centerfold. The famous three page fold out centerfold made it's first appearance in in the March 1956 issue (with Marian Stafford). In October 1985, the physical format of the magazine changed; instead of being held together by staples, the magazine was produced with the 'perfect' or flat binding. So now the centerfold is attached to the magazine at top of the centerfold, instead of stapled in the first fold. Thus if the magazine was closed with the centerfold unfolded, two pages would stick out, instead of one. - Who was the first Playmate of the Year? The first official Playmate of the Year was Ellen Stratton, the 1960 Playmate of the Year and the December 1959 Playmate of the Month. - Who was the first African-American Playmate of the Month? The first African-American selected as a Playmate of the Month was Jennifer Jackson. She appeared in the March 1965 issue. - Who was the first Asian-American Playmate of the Month? Not sure on this one; may have been China Lee in 1964. - Who was the first Foreign Playmate of the Month? ? Not sure on this one, either. The best I can guess at the moment is Elsa Sorensen (September 1956). I just remembered that they titled her pictorial "Danish Pastry" -- and she was from Denmark. - Who was the first Playmate to show pubic hair? The very first appearance of pubic hair was in the August 1969 issue, by Paula Kelly. However, the first Playmate to show pubic hair was Liv Lindeland. She appeared in the January 1971 issue. She was also the Playmate of the Year. - Who was the first double sided Playmate of the Month? The first (and only) double sided Playmate of the Month was Nancy Cameron. She appeared in the January 1974 issue. - Who was the last Playmate of the Month in a stapled issue? The last Playmate of the Month to appear in a stapled issue was Venice Kong. She appeared in the September 1985 issue. - Who was the first Playmate of the Month in a glued issue? The first Playmate of the Month to appear in a glued issue was Cynthia Brimhall. She appeared in the October 1985 issue. - Who was the first Playmate with a Data Sheet? The first first Playmate to appear with a Data Sheet was Sondra Theodore. She appeared in the July 1977 issue. - Who was the first Playmate to sign her centerfold? The first Playmate to sign her center fold was Jill De Vries. She appeared in the October 1975 issue. - Who was the youngest Playmate of the Month? The legal age limit is, of course 18. However, supposedly Elizabeth Ann Roberts, who appeared in the January 1958 issue, was only 16 at the time. Her mother accompanied her to her photo session, and claimed that she was 18. She was also attending college at the time. Both Playboy and Miss Roberts' mother were charged with something like contributing to the delinquency of a minor, but charges were later dropped. The German edition has had at least two Playmates who were under the age of 18. One was Ursula Buchfellner who appeared in Germany's December 1977 issue. She was 16 at the time. She later appeared in American October 1979 issue. Joyce Nizzari and Penny Baker, who appeared in the December 1958 and January 1984 issues, were both 18 years old when they posed. Also, a member of the list claims knowledge of another underage appearance, but will not disclose his source or the Playmate. * Who was the oldest Playmate of the Month? The oldest Playmate of the Month was Cindy Brooks, who appeared in the April 1985 issue, was 33 years and 5 months old at the time. Others 30+ playmates include : : Julianna Young (November 1993) 33 years, 2 months : Kathleen Ann Shower (May 1985) 32 years, 2 months : Susie Diane Owens (March 1988) 31 years, 10 months : Bettie Page (January 1955) 31 years, 9 months : Arlene Baxter (December 1993) 31 years, 1 month : Janis Schmitt (February 1978) 30 years, 11 months : Eloise Broady (April 1988) 30 years, 11 months * Who was the last anonymous Playmate? The first centerfolds for Playboy were not actually taken by Playboy photographers. Playboy purchased nude photographs from calendar pinup photographers (notably Baumgarten Calendar Company, which supplied the famous Marilyn Monroe picture). The first Playmate to pose for Playboy directly was Eve Meyer, for the June 1955 issue. The last anonymous Playmate was Lynn Turner, in the January 1956 issue. - Who are the Anniversary Playmates? 5th, December 1958, Joyce Nizzari 10th, December 63, Donna Michelle 15th, January 69, Leslie Bianchini 20th, January 74, Nancy Cameron (the famous double sided centerfold) 25th, January 1979, Candy Loving 30th, January 1984, Penny Baker 35th, January 1989, Fawna Maclaren 40th, January 1994, Anna-Marie Goddard - Who has the most apperances on the cover of Playboy? Well, besides the rabbit that appears on every cover, I'm not sure. Femlin has appeared on 8 covers and Cynthia Maddox (who was Playboy's Assistant Cartoon Editor) and Lillian Muller have been on 5 each. - How many Playmates have been Playmate of the Month multiple times? The first Playmate to appear as the Playmate of the Month three times was Janet Pilgrim. She appeared in the July 1955, December 1955 and October 1956 issues. Interestingly, she was discovered from within Playboy. She was Playboy's Subscription Manager. The first Playmate to appear as the Playmate of the Month twice was Margie Harrison. She appeared in the January 1954 and June 1954 issues. Others include Marilyn Waltz in the April 1954 and April 1955 issues, and Margurite Empey in the May 1955 and February 1956 issues. - How many times have there been two Playmates of the Month? The first issue to feature two Playmates as Playmates of the Month was the October 1958 issue. The pictorial was titled "Le Rouge et le Blanc" and featured Pat Sheehan (a blonde) and Mara Corday (a redhead). The idea was that while some men would prefer one playmate over the other, the true playboy was a connoisseur and would appreciate the differing qualities of both equally. Pat Sheehan appeared on the usual three page foldout. Mara Corday was on the reverse of the lower two pages of Pat Sheehan's picture, so her "centerfold" was only two pages. Both said "Miss October / Playboy's Playmate of the Month" as per usual. The October 1970 and September 1989 issues also had two Playmates. (see the next question) - How many times have there been twins as Playmates of the Month? The first issue to feature twins as Playmates of the Month was the October 1970 issue. It features Mary and Madeleine Collinson. Others include : : Karin and Mirjam van Breeschooten, September 1989 : Sofie and Katrien Vergote, July 1991, Dutch edition * How many times have sisters or twins independently been Playmates of the Month? Janice Pennington, May 1971; Ann Penington March 1976 Other sisters have appeared, not as Playmates, but in the Newstand Special "Playboy's Sisters," published in February 1992. Also, Elaine Morton (May 1971) and Karen Morton (July 1978) were cousins. The Brazilian edition features Andreia Ramme (August 1993), Josie Ramme (August 1994), and Tatiana Ramme (October 1994). - How many Playmates have had daughters who were also Playmates? This has only happened once, to the best of my knowledge. Carol Eden was the December 1960 Playmate of the Month; her daughter Simone Eden followed in her footsteps as the February 1989 Playmate of the Month. However, Jane Mansfield (Miss February 1955), had a daughter Jayne Marie Mansfield who posed for a regular pictorial an Tamara Davis appeared with here daughters Dawn and Shannon in an August 1993 pictorial entitled "Like Mother, Like Daughters." - How many Playmates have appeared in movies or on television? Several. The file pm.files.v0.9 at the FTP site contains a list of Playmates and their film/television appearances. - How many Playmates have had the same name? This has happened twice. A Susie Scott appears in the February 1960 and May 1983 issues; A Jennifer Jackson appears in the March 1965 and April 1989 issues. * How many Playmates have appeared with multiple or fake names? Pictures where the model actually posed for Playboy, and pictures Playboy has obtained through other sources. A '*' after an issue indicates that the model appeared in a feature layout or article. Most of the rest are single pictures from such features as "Sex Stars" or "The Year in Sex." That depends on what condition you want the issue in. If it is a fairly recent issue, or a post-1960 issue and you aren't concerned about scuffs and folded pages/covers, check Appendix B for a dealer in your local area. If there isn't one, check out the reputable Mail Order dealers in Appendix C. Generally they have each issue in a wide range of conditions. It might cost a little more than what you might pay in a local store, but will probably be in better condition. You can also watch the local classifieds under collectables for someone selling their collection at a bargain price. Most of the time they won't sell individual issues, but it can't hurt to ask. If you are looking for older issues, or want higher quality older issues, you'll have to do a little more work. First, check any local dealers. It's unlikely, but not impossible, that they'll have good quality magazines, but you may get a bargin! Again, watch the classified section of your local news paper, under collectables. On occasion someone will sell an entire collection, often at a good price. Make sure you see the collection before you buy, and check the condition of every issue, if you have time. If you want top quality condition issues, check the list of reputable dealers in Appendix C. You will definately pay more, but, as they say, you get what you pay for. You could even place your own ad in the wanted section, asking for an entire collection in good condition. And again, watch the classified section of your local news paper, under collectables. Make sure you see the collection before you buy it, and check the condition of every issue. There are also several newsgroups on the internet that regularly have postings about Playboy magazines for sale. However, it is kind of risky since you don't know the person, and they usually want payment in advance. This is ok if you want a fairly cheap issues, but I wouldn't recommend buying a December 1953 issues without making arrangements to see it first. Having said that, some of the news- groups you could check include : : alt.mag.playboy : alt.sex.erotica.marketplace : alt.sex.movies : alt.sex.magazines --------------------------------------------------------------------- Storage Issues -------------- - How should I store my back-issues of Playboy? It really depends on how serious you are and how much money you have to spend. If you are very very serious, and want permanent, archival storage, you should use mylar/acid-free bags and boxes, with acid free backing boards (to prevent corners and edges from wrinkling and bending). This can be expensive, but will offer the best protection for the magazine. Even if you are very very serious, bear in mind that the circulation of Playboy increased dramatically in the early 60s. It may be a bit of overkill to store these more easily obtainable issues with mylar/ acid-free bags and boxes. One of the better suggestions I've heard was to go all out for the first 100 issues, then use the less expensive Polyethylene bags for issues after that. If you are moderately serious, comic shops and collectors shops often have Polyethylene or plastic bags that will fit Playboy for about 7-8 dollars per 100. Some places may have bags that seal (ala ziploc baggies) to make them airtight. It is generally thought this is bad, because temperature and air pressure variations could cause water vapor to come out of the air trapped in the bag, damaging the magazine. Also, it has been reported that sandwhich bags commonly available in grocery stores will cause the magazine to fade due to both the bags and the paper Playboy is printed on are clay based. * I can't find bags/backing boards locally. Where can I get them? : Mylar/Acid free bags ($$$) Polyethylene bags : --------------------------- ------------------------- : Bill Cole Enterprises Bags Unlimited * : P.O. Box 60 7 Canal Street : Randolph, MA 02368-0060 Rochester, New York 14608 : (617) 986-2653 (800) 767-BAGS * Bags Unlimited has free samples (first time only), I recommend products SMAG3 or SMAGL3. - I've found a source for bags/backing boards. What size do I need? The size bag you need depends on the size of each magazine, and whether or not you also plan on using acid free backing boards. For recent issues, 8 1/2" x 11" should be ok. I recomend a flap of at least 1 1/2". For older issues, especially Christmas issues from the Eighties, or if you want to use acid free backing boards, 9" x 11" is pretty much a minimum. If you can find them, bags that are slightly longer than 11" (11 1/8" or more) are great. If you put the magazine and board in the bag and it bends or warps, you need a wider bag. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix A ---------- - Contacting Foreign Editions of Playboy For information on subscribing to foreign editions, contact the appropriate office below. I specialize in back issues of PLAYBOY magazine and other PLAYBOY collectibles and have one of the largest and most extensive inventories of such items to be found anywhere. I also stock a wide variety of other material that is similar in nature. Due to the sheer size of my inventory and the fact that it is constantly changing, I am unable to provide one comprehensive listing of everything that is available. Instead, I offer a range of individual lists for collectors who are interested in specific titles, models, topics, or types of material. I hope you see something of interest. GRADING: My standards of grading are extremely strict, and I will gladly compare my material to the corresponding grade of anyone else. All items are complete (unless otherwise noted), guaranteed authentic, and graded using the following standard system. VG: Very Good. The next most popular grade, these are very solid but obviously used copies and will have some minor imperfections. The favorite of collectors who actually like to read their magazines from time to time without white gloves. [Editor's note : Ken's list also gave prices for several other grade ] [ as well. For brevity's sake, only the price for the ] [ Very Good grade is listed.
