O.K. People, I want to try a new substrate; using ground up HARTZ(r) hamster & gerbal diet. It is nitrogen flushed, and has a list of ingredients too long to list, with an additive of ethoxyquin(a preservative). I was thinking of course to sterilize it, and mix it with verm.
Has anyone ever tried this, or atleast heard of an effort with such? Any advice?
Anyway, I'll work with it and let you know the results.
Also, what about using cow manure, can you direct me to a tek using this? I am very interested in attempting an out of doors experiment also.

Preservatives usually spell bad news, but I've seen liquid bloated feed pellets growing hair before, so go ahead and try it! Just know that they will expand to about ten times their size and turn to mush. So you will still need verm or something. Soak them and use the mush. Don't try using them like rye...
