Anyone know a good way to clean Mycilium from a fruiting cake well enough as to not screw up the honey water with contams? does alcohol kill mycilium??

pure alcohol does kill mycellia quickly.
get your mycellia from the inside of the cake.
tincture of iodine can be used to clean mycellial tissue, and some try to get by with peroxide, although it is much less effective, imo.

I got some tincture Iodine today, but it contians 47 % alcohol. given that alcohol kills Mycellial tissue, You must be suggesting an iodine product I havent found yet. any comments would be great.

never even noticed.
i checked mine, and it is, too.
i suppose the concentration of the alcohol makes some difference.
never-the-less, tincture of iodine is what i was told to use way back, and it seems to work, even with the alcohol.

just don't soak the tissue with it, i use a q-tip dipped in the tincture to swab the exterior surfaces.

Ok... cool, I am going to look for straight Iodine as well.

I do not recommend straight tincture of Iodine because it is just too strong. You can purchase Iodophor iodine sanitizer, it contains no alcohol and is perfect for this use. It is designed to be diluted. I use a few drops in 1/2 cup of water as a wash/dip solution prior to cloning and printing.
I have also used 10 drops of Betadine (generic equivalent: Providone-Iodine 10%) in 1/2 cup of purified (sterile is best) water as a wash.
