This is Honey 6 days old. The growth is awesome but I have fears since my eye isn't as well trained to spot contams in honey yet. These are pics of the same jar. The darkness in the last pic are due to shadow of the back-lit jar. The growth is that thick, it really isn't that dark. Can a trained observer give it the look see?
There are no obvious sour nasty odors.

looks ok to me,
a bit far along,
but should still work.

Can you see it, Quo? Look there... a little mouth gasping for air... Help me! He cries in vain...
Mr. B, you may want to go ahead and use what you've got now for the inoc. Too much longer, and I fear they'll suffocate. My reasoning is the amount of growth for six days. It's a tad on the small side with a hint of breaking down. No worries; just use it soon.
Then again, may I ask how much spore water you used, and how dark was it? Do you shake your honey jar regularly? Finally, what was your method of sterilization?

Is a karo jar supposed to look anything like this in 6 days?? If so, I screwed up somewhere...

his grew alot for only 6 days, my last batch took about 2 weeks to get that big of a mycellial cloud.

First off I would say that ,IMHO, honey produces much better results than karo. I use 100 ml filtered water with 1 level tsp of either honey or light syrup. I put small bits of glass in there and shake it a couple of times daily. I pressure cook it for 20 - 25 min. I don't put the jar in until the water is steaming good. and keep heat as low as possible while still keeping the pressure up. I have no idea what the pressure is since there is no gauge on my PC

Well it just seems that the there are meager results compared to the honey is all. The syrup is great for the main reasons Nan said it was. To spot contams since it does not have all the other shit in it that honey does. Several times I made two at once, one honey and one syrup. Both were 5% solutions and PC'd at the same time.
The honey has this huge cloud of growth in it and the syrup has at least 70% less growth. Maybe I got some really good honey but that's my expericnce is all... Not taking anything away from a good tek. My first successes were with Nan's method.
** Note From Nan:
That's cool. Karo is not as fast as pure dextrose, which really is the standard... But different honeys have different sugar percentages and so the performance in honey is going to vary. Some spores are hotter than others too.
The only reason I urge beginners to stay away from honey is because of the number of posts we get due to the off colors, sediment, lack of clarity, scum... It's harder to eyeball.

I don't know the honey water I've used successfully loooked more like amber colored strands near the bottom and I let it go for about a week, any honey water I've had with something looking more like a white cloud has been contaminated when I tried it!
