I always read about how much better the quality of a shroom if it is picked when its veil is about to break or has just broken. How come 90% of the pictures posted here, and anywhere else for that matter, are of fully mature shrooms? Are people making THAT many spore prints?

I asked the same question last week. The answer seems to be partly for spore prints and partly for displaying their crop in all its glory. I guess it seems like a lot of pics of mature shrooms until you think about all the crops that are grown and that these pics only represent a very small part of the crops.

Large shrooms weigh more than small shrooms?
They look less phalic?

The every-day get ingested.

I wouldn't know personally, but my guess is....The more weight, the more money?

Can someone describe the difference between eating say 1/8 of shrooms harvested at the perfect time, to 1/8 shrooms harvested after sporulation? I know it will be difficult to describe, but maybe it could be described in terms such as (1/4"old"shrooms=1/8"young"shrooms) as far as potency.

I've heard people say "hardly a difference" and others say "big difference".
P Fanaticus has had some nifty things to post on the subject-
Check out this informative dialog

I'll say this- PF has been around the block and sure seems to know whats going on.

I could never tell a difference.
To me it was like trying to tell the difference
between 2.4 and 2.5 grams...
After I tried letting a few flushes mature and not noticing any difference I began to let all of mine mature.
But, as said above, different people have different accounts.

Do you mean after they've dropped their spores and everything?

It's going to snow tonight so I'm gonna light a bon-fire out in the field.
I'll eat 2g. mature AND 2g. young and tell ya later how nice the snow sledding and the fire are.
I'll bet you I won't give half a shit if the shrooms were young or old.

Hey ggg, thanks for finding that thread
I was going to post it but couldn't find it.
If I understand the theory right...
The magic increases until the shroom cap opens.
Then the shroom keeps growing but no more magic
Therefore, less magic per weight the longer the
shroom grows after that point?

My shrooms are finally done... actually three days overdone ( i was out of town.) The shrooms are kinda limp... but still look alright.
THEY HAVE A BLACK LAYER OF GOO ON THEIR CAPS. is this ok to eat??? should we wash it off?? They smell like mushrooms (mmmmm) just a question.
please hurry, for we are about to eat them.

Sounds like what happens when spores fall on mushrooms from other mushrooms and it gets moist. The spores seem to "eat into" the cap.
I would say to scrape it off, at any rate. It sounds like no one will be able to convince you not to eat the things before sending pictures... so just be on the safe side and remove all traces of this "goo". Hope you have a good time not knowing for sure what you just ate...
