When my 50 gallon bag o' vermi ran near dry, i took a drive out to find some more. I have discovered that vermiculite (main ingredient in mixture for psylocybe cultivation) Has been taken off the market in illinois, and when i try to find out why,all store owners and managers (gardening stores, department stores) tell me the FDA has taken it off the market "because it contains asbestos". This is a complete myth and i think this is a bit of a conspiracy because i drove all over northern illinois trying to find vermiculite but they all tell me the same thing! Vermiculite does not contain asbestos, that is the fucking stupidest government myth i have ever heard. For anyone who knows anything about this or the myth plese post! p.s. anyone know a good place to buy vermiculite online?

Ummm.... I live in ILLINOIS and I just bought a bag today at a local nursery. I havent heard anything like that....however..good luck. All of the "Mart" stores will have it in spring, but the only carry potting soil now b/c of the weather.

Very interesting......I was told it causes cancer and has been federally banned. I'm glad someone did their research.

fuck illinois. goddamn nazi's. that is a load of shit. either vermiculite causes cancer or it doesn't. there are loads of factory's here that will coat you in black funk or a cloud of fumes or exhaust as you walk in the door. where's the fucking epa there? poor bastards occupationally exposed. i know a man, over 70, that used to pack the lines and such, in the Navy, with asbestos. he hacks like a mother fucker(smokes too). he'd mix up friable asbestos. work in clouds of the shit. asbestos is dangerous. when the time is right, fiberglass will be the next asbestos. these things never end. it's like smokers supporting state govt. they want us to quit. what the hell would they do if we did? they'd be fucked. everyone has a right to be taken care of(huh?) so go get yours.

It pays to check out the size of the bag when you buy. I buy the 12 quart size cause thats the biggest at the store I go to. Some bags are like stuffed and some are so-so. Do all you people get this little tag on your bags?
