Well after 11 years of successful pressure cooking, I finally flucked up, in a bad way. I think it will take weeks to get rid of this smell, God I hope not!!!

Last night I decided to run a batch of ryegrass seed and rye grain Jars through my All american 930, bought at the beginning of the year. An upgrade from my mirro rubberseal decade. Well, I was a bit tired from working these holiday hours at the Optical, but I didn't think I was that tired. I WAS!!! After putting the oven on too build up steam, I FELL ASLEEP. I did not wake up for three hours.

I awoke to an apartment full of the worst smelling, and life threatening smoke. Thank god I fell asleep before putting the weight on the steam valve. Never the less, I could have died from the smoke. I am sure it will take a few years off my life. The pressure cooker is lost, a nickle size hole was burnt through the bottom of the cooker.

This fucking sucks!!!!! The apartment still smells like burnt aluminum/ burnt ryeseed/ burnt rye grain. It is god awful. My girlfreind went out of town to see her family for christmas, I only prey this smell subsides by next sunday, at least a bit!!! Luckily I woke up. It was getting right to that point where I would permenantly stay asleep. No fire, thank god!!!! No Fire rescue, no pissed off neighbors, no police, just me and my ruined lungs, and pressure cooker.

I made it through 11 years without any problems, and BAMMMMMMMM. I think this is the closest I ever came to death, and I have been pretty close before. Smoke sucks, especially burnt aluminum, and throw in the burnt rye. It is not a pleasant thing.

I should count my blessings I am still alive, there is no smoke damage to any of the apartment, except smell. Fuckin A Man, what a nightmare. This is a mistake I will never repeat.

Peace Teonan

Reminds me of my thread 'pressure cookers scare me' gotta be on the alert with those things all the time.... they are blessings...but can be awfully dangerous!

sounds like he's been taking cooking lessons from me.
I'm a pro at turning frozen pizzas into solid
carbon frisbees...

preheat oven to 450
place pizza on rack
go to sleep
wake up to a house full of smoke

Walla! you are now the proud owner of a custom made carbon frisbee.

lol
it's worse, though, with an illegal drug grow op ongoing, can't have those pesky emergency response types poking about much without severe consequences.
maybe a timer should be set to wake one up in 20 minutes or so, if you're tired.

my buddy had a plant spotted by firemen when his house caught on fire a while back... the police just told us to get it the hell outta there before they came back.... survived too!!!..... although, a very very small yeild

I toasted my first pc doing that same thing while doing quarts of rye.

The smell really does linger for quite some time.

At least my pc was decent and didn't melt.

Thanks for the story, Quote. Any chance this PC story could be put in the archieves under PC safty? It might help on of us avoid the same (or worse) consequences. Thanks again.

Sounds like teonan needs ozonium :)

Definitely Ozonium for the smell. I have an All-American about 9 quart PC. I was PC'ing some jars and fell asleep after I got home from work at 1am. I woke up at 3:30am to the sound of the timer going off, the guage was pegged and the relief valve not letting off steam. I was in horror when I looked at the guage. The jars were baked. I was thinking of using a large hotplate with a timer to avoid such accidents. Emergency crews could change your life for some time if they find your shrooms. Really sorry to hear your story. Ebay has some good deals on All-Americans.
