All but maybe one or two of my pins (which may do it soon) are growing the caps UPSIDE DOWN the top of the cap is connected to the stem and then the cap opens up to reveal pink-fleshy veils (but no spores that I can see) all the pins that I can really look at well are growing on the side and the cap is facing down like normal but the stem appears to be attatched at the top. The cap is all white except a little bit of brown on the normal top that is connected to the stem... a couple also seem real fuzzy... do they not have enought humidity? I'm using a cool mist humidifier connected through a 5/8 hose into a real small tubberware terrarium that only has one cake in it. This is the first cake I've had any luck with so I dont have any personal experience to look back at. I grew them from a mycellium suspension I bought from WG the company that supplies shroomwizard (I really need to get money for a pf syringe).
And are these okay to eat?

Variety I guess. Or a freakshow.

is there much of a chance that maybe another kind of shroom contaminated my jar and grew?
|By jim brown (Shrhobbyist) on Tuesday, January 01, 2002 - 09:16 am: The Nook|
That's a pretty random chance. Possible but seriously doubted. Even if it were another shroom, the upside-down occurance you mention is a mutant whatever the shroom. No shrooms grow that way.

Except "bird's nests"... which have "eggs" in them.

just a mutation, i've seen it several times...
contact with a petroleum product will cause abhorations, what type of hose are you using and was it new or used?
the shrooms should be considered abhorts, wonder how strong they are?

the hose was a new 5/8 sprayer hose I bought at some hick farming place. I can't get my cake to produce any mushrooms or even big pins... what is the most likely reason?

hard to say, exactly.
the hose might well have some type of coating/oil which is causing the mutations.
the mycellia you grew from might be degenerate, incabable of fruiting.
or there might not be enough water in the cake to support fruiting.
or there may be some hidden contaminant weakening the cake.
