Can anbody tell me why some of my cakes are producing really fat stem? I also seem to be gettign a lot deformed shrooms?
I have a cool mist rubbermaid setup and the temp is only 70f(hard for me to have it any harder), could the cool temp be a factor? They are a unknown race and maybe inferior. Any ideas?

fat stems: too much water. aborts are nasty ooking shrooms, they are normal.

too much water? or too much humidity? cause I doubt its too much humidity I do have a cool mist setup but very little condensation on the walls and also the cakes are bluing tell me there isn't enough water(in the cake that is).
And no not the aborts but the actuall mushrooms have very deformed caps??

who can really say, since you are dealing with unidentified spores ?
fat stems is not, in itself, a bad thing.
big shrooms have fat stems.
some strains, such as pf classic & b+ are prone to tree-trunk like stems popularly called
'fat-asses' . no real problem there.
what you don't want to see is stems bloated and saturated with excess water, which apparently you do not, since you mention bluing of the cakes.
as for deformities, some do happen naturally for unknown reasons. other possibilities include chemical residues, and/or parasites.
if your print was taken from wild shrooms, these types of things seem to be quite common until the strain adapts to human cultivation.

ok thanx, and no the spores were not wild but from a bunk ass local hemp shop, seeing as "fat asses" may not be bad thing can anybody tell me if there is any difference in potency in the stems versus the caps? Haven't seen any info on this topic?

of course, since shrooms are illegal there hasn't been much study, but the few done suggest that potency is roughly equivalent, either stem or cap could be stronger in any given batch, but overall caps have a very slight edge.
but for all intents & purposes, they're roughly equal.
