I have no problem finding a reasonable tek on making prints, although I haven't tried any yet. One question I have concerns when to pick a shroom for print purposes. Obviously you wait until the cap flattens, but then what? Do you have to wait until it starts to drop spores or can you just harvest it, cut off the flattened cap and follow one of the teks from there until it drops the spores? If anyone has a favourite tek, please direct me too it. This part freaks me out a little since there seem to be a lot of people here more skilled than I who talk about ordering syringes or prints. Is it difficult or just difficult to do without contams? And finally (lots of questions), are there any places where you can get syringes? I'm not thinking about ordering them over the net, I'm thinking about getting them from somewhere where they might seem innocent. You know, from somewhere where they might not be sold specifically for the purpose for which we use them.

Wait until you can verify the spores are dropping before harvesting a cap to print.

I don't think there are any bad print Teks downstairs, you just gotta pick one that agrees with your style and give it a shot.

Printing is not that difficult, but there are a lot of experienced growers here who shoot with commercial syringes because it is easy and they have not gotten around to gathering the stuff they need to print. Others are perhaps nervous about contams since the PF Tek does not require any intermedate or advanced mycology skills or equipment. Still other order prints and syringes to expand the number of strains in their shroom libary (I still buy and trade prints and syringes for this purpose).

As for obtaining syringes, try a feed store...Many farmers and ranchers use big syringes and needles to inject their livestock. Wear some cowboy boots and tuck yer hair up under a John Deere cap and saunter on in. They know you are not going to use a 12 cc syringe with a 16 gauge needle to shoot drugs.

I was in New Mexico recently and stopped in a "general store" in a small town for refreshments. Walking through the row of coolers I saw injectable bottles of veternary medicine and asked the store clerk where the syringes and needles were... She pulled up a box from under the counter and for 5 bucks I got several 12 cc syringes and 16 gauge needles, she never even blinked an eye, because I knew exactly what I wanted...

Yea, printing and making inocular isn't tough. Wait til the spores hit the pavement to print the cap, put some tissue or anything white underneath and it'll be obvious. I print right into a jelly jar, then all that's needed is some sterile water with a couple of pieces of glass and ya got inoculum. Just use the electic range tek, it's worked fine for me so far.
Glad you posted the places ya might score syringes Nan, shoulda thought of the feed and seed myself, I'm from farmland prints of four different races, the only thing holding me back now is no syringes. Be takin' a little trip to TSC...

Hey Nan, never tried them but how about those
"flavor injector" syringes they use to inject seasonings
into meat before cooking?
An example is that Cajun seasoning kit that had the different
flavors and a syringe included?
If that would work ok, Kevin could also look in a gormet shop,
kitchen supplies shop or the cooking section of a dept store.
Just an idea :)

It has been suggested here before, but nobody has actually posted that they bought one, tried it, and made it work... With a photo, this would be a good Tek for somebody to put together.

What I did the other day was took a ziplock bag (they're sterile in the box) and opened it up, stuck the cap in there, then sealed it. After a day I had a nice black print. I took the cap out, and ate it.
Now how sterile this is now, I have no idea. It was my first printing ever. My only concern is that there could have been contams on the top of the cap which would have touched the other side of the baggie.
Any thoughts on this tek nan?

This Tek works as long as the cap is clean. To make syringes you inject the baggie with 40-50 cc's of sterile purified water, swish around, and then suck it back out without ever opening the bag. You can make syringes up on a dirty counter top with nothing more than a sterile syringe & water and an alcohol wipe.

What would be the "best" way to clean the cap?

clean it w/tincture of iodine.
just the cap, not the gills.

Where would you get that?

By ShrooMaster (Shroomaster) on Monday, December 31, 2001 - 01:35 am: The Nook

iodine s available many places. if you have a quality farm and fleet in your town youve got syringes. they have no needles small enough to use on humans. there about $1.50 for 3.

you should be able to find tincture of iodine at any decent sized grocery/pharmacy in the health supplies area like rubbing alcohol or peroxide.

why not use alcohol?

because alcohol will kill it, while iodine won't.
