I have begun to notice on two or three of my cakes that there are these orange droplets of some liquid forming on them. Anyone have a clue as to what is causing this?

Sounds like water setting on your cake is begining to do some damage to me.... try soaking the liquid up with some cotton or a piece of paper towel.

By PsychoBass213 (Psychobass213) on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 - 01:10 am:

it's excrement from the mycelia, don't worry about it. it wouldn't hurt to soak it up though

I think it's contam....I have brown liquid oozing out of the cakes, not sure what to make of it. My cakes are fairly white, but it's grouping all together in clumps. Need some help on this guys.....

Poor cakes...

Dude, I don't think anything " oozing " out of a cake is good...

By Brettiejams (Brettiejams) on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 - 04:22 am:

ooze =

contam, for sure.

Sorry Charlie.

Thanks guys, i'll toss those cakes out tonight. I'm just lucky i harvested some caps from them.

By Jesseb (Jesseb) on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 - 07:02 pm:

Did you harvest before the contams or after you noticed them? I would not eat anything that came from a contaminated cake.

By Dr. Cubensis (Shroomzilla) on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 - 09:06 pm:

Hey Cubies,

yea, if you do eat from a contamed cake...

Start SLOWLY when eating them... A lil at a time.
And for gods sake don't [email protected] them or give them to anyone. If you are going to partake of contamed cubies, they are now your " private stock " meaning, don't put anyone else at risk.

Have a safe trip ;0)

right guys, I'm not really sure about taking them myself. I know that if u cut the fresh shrooms open, it should be white on the inside. Anything blue or different is signs of contam..I cut mine and it is white on the inside and the usual bruise common to pf shrooms. I think, it's o.k and i'll take them later. I have no more spores and have to order more from pf.

Hey what's that [email protected] thing u put in the post shroomzilla. I'm not sure what that is. My wife was like don't write cause it's risky. Sorry, din't mean to be paranoid

By plinkerdink420 (Plinkerdink420) on Thursday, January 17, 2002 - 02:20 pm:

i think he was writing sell, but because of the @ sign... the system labeled it as an email address, and automatically made it into a link

By Dr. Cubensis (Shroomzilla) on Thursday, January 17, 2002 - 06:35 pm:

i've eaten shrooms from a contamed cake, once. My friends very first batch of twelve, lost 9 within days,,,, Had two left, those two went the contam route to, but determined newbie my friend was, he tried gutting the contams, peroxide baths, and the two cakes came back to life. The cakes fruited nicely, and couldn't help myself :)

I need to get on the spore exchange board myself :(
Have way more spores printed than my friend could use in lifetime, would be nice to pass them out :)
Don't really need anything new... But would love to hand some freebies down to people in need. :)

And yeppers, I never use the word " sell " right out if I can help it. prolly doesn't help to mispell it legally, but makes me feel better :)

LOL!! My friends girlfriend is less paranoid than he is about all this, it's just not fair!

* grin *
really tho, if you have a po or whatever I will
send ya some goodies.... That way you can skip 20 bucks for a print and get a LOT of prints :)

Anyways, TTFN guys!

Hey folks!
Last night I birthed my Koh Samui's, and they look nice, colonized extremely fast, but when birthed, they had spots of geletin on them. Is this from too much H2O? I took a paper towel, and wiped most of it off, and decided to put straight into the fruiting chamber without dunking. Is that OK? Anyone ever have that stuff? It's not a contam right? It smelled fine to me! unsure.gif

man, i have that sometimes too and i dont think its a contam, more of like something thats excreted out of the mycelium perhaps.. kinda like poop lol..

well, if im missing the mark on this, someone correct me! wub.gif

Posted by: wildflowergirl Nov 25 02, 03:18 PM GMT
Do they fruit alright? Have you dunked after this occurence? smirk.gif

Posted by: Jade Nov 25 02, 04:23 PM GMT
yah.. i did all the dunking normally..

they fruited fine for me, i didnt have any problems

ofcourse, just to be sure wait until another opinion comes by, ya never know we could be talkign about different things. but i think you're fine wub.gif

I think you hit the mark with that answer Jade. Or got pretty damn close.
It's an excretion that can be from orange to piss yellow. Kind of a sweat or poop as you put it.
Blot it off and do as you will with your cake. Fruit, dunk, or crumble and use as spawn.
This "stuff" will eat through aluminum, so watch your pans. They get holes in them.
I've noticed some varieties experience this more than others.
And then it could be environment. huh.gif
