I have some flatcakes that have been doing quite well. Yesterday after picking fruits, i added some moist verm to the underside of my cakes because it seemed as though they were losing that nice mist on the side of the tank.
Well, today i noticed much of my cakes have turned a bit green/blue...oops..shit.
So i removed the verm, now what?
Should I cut away the green.?
u all rule

first, make sure there really is a problem.
bluing of the flesh is common, normal even.
but green mold is a different story.
is the flesh that color or is something actually growing on the flesh ?
try rinsing off the suspected area.
green mold will dissolve and run, washing off.
if it really is green mold, there's not much point in trying to cut it out.
you should just get any infected cake out of the grow area asap.

nope, it looks like blue-ish. I tried rinsing a little area and it just soaked it in.
The majority of it is where the areas of the cake touched the verm. I'm hoping its just normal. But have noticed a decrease in the amount of white fuzz that was on these cakes.
I have been increasing fanning,though..

So I had a cake that had a dark bluish, possibly green substance on the side of it. It didn't stink, didn't grow or spread for three days, and it was powdery and flaky in substance. Does it sound like green mold to you guys, or any other type of contam? I cut off the areas after three days of watching it, there was only white myc underneath, I then dunked it for 20 hrs. and put it back in the terrarium. It's now got some really pretty babys on it, and the whole cake looks white and healthy. Do you guys think it's safe? I threw out the first mushrooms that were growing on it when I spotted the substance, they were small and hadn't really started growing yet.
Secondly, I'm having some major problems with size in my mushrooms. I grow in a ten gallon aquarium with a plastic wrap lid attached to a cardboard frame to weight it down; I use a 1 foot plant grow light suspended about 2 to 2 1/2 feet above the aquarium shining down on it; I have a plexiglass divider that leaves maybe a 1/4 inch space on each side from the aquarium wall; I grow from 1/2 pint canning jars in the lids; I spray and fan simoltaneously about 3 times a day; the temp is kept at about 70 degrees sometimes it might get as low as 65 or 63 when im not home; but once my veils have busted I have shrooms that are only 1 to maybe 2 inches tall. I have tried casing and dunking, but still the same, just fatter flushes. What's the problem? I don't think it's the degenerated PF strain cause I ordered from them mid last year too and had the same problem.
Third, what's the best rundown of an invitro tech I could try without having to go all out with metal supensions and piping and all that like in chronics tech. From the pics I've seen it looks like if I cant solve my above problem I'd get fatter flushes from some neglect.

Why don't you check out quotes true invitro tek in the archives. Works great with the proper strain and is pretty much a garantee.

I'll check that out, wut about my other questions?
Also I was reading up on flatcakes, I notice all these containers with mushrooms growing out of em, but I never could find out what the containers were put in to get their humidity and such. I also saw where flatcakes had been put into aquarium covering whole bottom and grown, but once again how do they get their humidity, I didn't see a spray shield, and with the cake covering the whole bottom of the aquarium it didn't look like there was any room for one either.

Liked watching the chair breath. Can't wait til I'm done with my harvest and me and my friends eat the whole batch. WE'RE GONNA DIE!!

I'm glad you had fun DJ. Thoughs aborts pack a punch don't they? I don't know, however, if baked is the correct term for a shroom buzz. Oh well, don't stop shrooming/baking!

So is anyone can answer my questions above?

DJ, back to your question; green mold is unmistakinably green. If you cut it off and it didn't come back it probably wasn't trich. Trich doesn't stink so much but it spreads real fast on uncolonized substrate. Was the area that it was on colonized or not? If it was colonized it is most likely okay. If it was uncolonized then it was surely mold. It sounds like it was on colonized substrate though so it was probably just a bruise or a dry spot.
As far as the small shrooms, I'll bet you are using PFC spores. I'd recommend getting some Perlite and getting the temp up about ten degrees if possible. See the archieves for a few ideas such as heating pads and fish tank heaters. Also, while PFCs are great, thoughs bastard aborts can get to be a real chore if you have dozens of cakes covered in them. Try PF's Hawaiians. They grow great and very few abort. Mazatecs are nice too. Just make sure to stick with Fanaticus if you are new to the hobby.
Lastly Invitro does great on it's own. What I do is put the 1/2 pint cakes in pint or quart jars to give them a little more room. It won't significantly raise the yeild but it makes some more presentable shrooms and keeps the cake in good shape (no big deal, though, just a preference). And in my latest batch I have the cakes raised, like the Chronic tek. I used a film container with the end cut off so it is about 3/4 inch tall. If you go to a photomat they will probably give you as many empty film containers as you want for free. They just throw them out anyways.
Good luck, hope this helps.
