My VERY FIRST successful caseing
I am so happy I could pee!! All my questions and patience have paid off...now if things can just keep on the upswing it'll be a Mushie Christmas and a Shroomy New Year for sure. Thanks to all who offered advice, suggestions, do's, and dont's.In general posting all your questions and answers has been my biggest tool. I learned from your experiences as you posted them. So when I get my first flush you'll get a pic of them too...cuz I'm proud!! Sorry about the pic quality..new upgrade disk left my camera in need of some adjustments. BTW...pleases tell me THA T IS a pin in the 2nd pic????? I know it's hard to make out

That's mighty purty Plink!! I'm hoping mine will look similar SOON! It's only been 4 days since I cased this tray. Only about 1/2" straight coir on a QT. of BS..Some GC's.
I have another tray I was a bit concerned with. I made a mistake when I cased it. What I did was actually mixed the crushed BS spawn with some past. manure. I forgot you have to let it spawn the manure before caseing!!!! So when I realized my mistake, I was about to remove the 1/2" of coir on it--BUT..within 3 days it had colonized 95% of the poo. So I left it and yesterday(day #4) it had some small spots of white peaking up from the coir. So I just left it and stuck it in my incub. chamber where it'll stay till about 30-40% and then I'll stick it in with the one above.
Anyone forsee any probs with that? I figure to just watch real close for contams on the last one, but it's haulin ass...seems like it may beat out any contams.(Cross your fingers for me) My main question on the BS/poo tray is this:
Once colonized, the mycel. is now like 3 inches thick!! Do I need a "sturdier" or maybe thicker caseing than the 1/2" of coir that's on it now?Anything I should add..or just leave it be?
Thanks again all~

Can I have your recipe for that monstrosity???
I am moving from verm casings shortly to other 50-50 casings and not sure where to go next.
I have access to all the cowshit I could ever want..... if thats the case.

that is a half pint pf classic cake... (lundberg's organic) whole grain brown rice with (lundberg's sweet dreams organic) brown rice syrup added in the cooking of the rice... probably about a tablespoon or two per cup of rice... not really sure, just scooped up a blob and dropped it in the pot... crumbled the cake on top of about a half inch of 50/50+ and put about another half inch on top of that... the actual casing is only about 6"x12"... i didn't know that it was really all that impressive as it was my first casing attempt... thanks for the compliments

I don't get how that casing stuff works. Basically you take like 4 cakes and crumble them up and put them in a flat tray then you cover it with like 1/2" of something like verm and thats it? Is it that simple... maybe I should try a casing for my next set of cakes? If I'm wrong somebody correct me here.

Got a concern...firstly..I jumped to fast...the spot I thought was a pin, well, it turned out to be a piece pf BS pushed up by the mycel. And the tray is almost 100% white now(should take pix, but you know what it looks like) and still no pins! I have temps at about 70-73 and RH is at about 85-90% I fan 3x daily and mist with H202 maybe 2x daily. It's coir, so I only do it if it needs it.Easy to tell.I have a 50Hz air pump going 24/7 to keep some fresh air in and a hole on each end of terr. covered w/HEPA filter at Co2 levels. Also had a 15 watt blue aquar. light on it 12/12, bu tswitched it to a 20 watt spiral flourescent [email protected] 12/12. What should I do? More light? More fanning? Cold shock? I thought for sure it would be pinning by now.
Thanx for any help!

less peroxide i think man... it may not kill the cake, but it really slows shit down... just mist it with clean water if it really needs it...
|By quote: (Quote) on Friday, December 14, 2001 - 07:27 pm:|
agreed, don't want to use peroxide much, it'll definitly set you back.
maintain humidity at about 90%, increase temp slightly, to about 75-78*F, and just maintain, sometimes pinning is slow. you might have just got a bad genetic mix this time, it's quite common with spores, roughly 25% of the strains created by multi-spore germinations are incapable of fruiting, another good reason to clone.

WHEW..thought it was something serious...is the blueing from not ENOUGH misting then?? It's only slight on one corner sortta radiating from left to right, along the edge and about 1" in.
My camera really sux for detail, but I'll try
|By Anno Nymer (Anno) on Saturday, December 15, 2001 - 02:11 am:|
>reduce humidity to about 75%,
Are you sure, Quote?
As far my exerience tells me, you should get you terrarium as humid as it gets(95-100) untill pins form. Then lover it to app. 90%.
And your casing looks very dry. Spray it with water. Forget the H2O2 in this phase.

Trust me dude, Quote is the master, if he says something and you don't do it then you are cursing yourself and you 'shrooms will more than likely wither away. "that's why I must steal his brain!"

cool..thanx ANNO..I've already started spraying the sides of the terr. now, sprayed down casing with plain H2o and I am trying to get teh temps up a bit. They seem to wanna stay at 70 now. Trying for 76-78. I know hte pics were HORRID, but could anyone tell what color the spots actually are?
