I am using the original PF tek with perilite in the aquarium and my shrooms are not really all growing straight up tward the light that I have on about an hour a day. They are growing out the side and kinda resting on the perilite. Is this bad or is there anything I can do to get them to grow straight up like in the fanaticus pics?

They will grow in all directions from the cake. That's okay if your just after the final product, right?

However, I would try to get the cake up high enough that the fruit bodies are not directly touching the perlite. Depending on moisture content, time of contact, and general cleanliness the shrooms touching the perlite *could* spell trouble. They may be fine, but I wouldn't take the chance.

if you want them to grow straight up,
you need to give them a nice bright light for longer than an hour daily.

cover the sides of your terranium with a black trash bag or black construction paper ;)
