Anyone heard of mushroom  3 12/24 05:25am Serialkiller

Has anyone got one of the mushroom kits from They're $160 and claim to yield 4-6 pounds in 2-4 weeks. I e-mailed them and found out that the kits is only 2ftx2ft. If I can find a place to grow the kit I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy one.

it's got to be a rip-off, at that price, and with such a yield. there's no way in hell you're going to get 4-6 pounds in 2-4 weeks, that's just plain crazy talk.
save your money, gather your materials locally,
and you can do the same for half that price.

I agree, fully. In fact, for $50 you can set yourself up with a system that will equal whatever it is they're selling

By wycrobro (Newman) on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 03:45 am: The Nook

A friend of mine got the kit. I was there when he opened it DAMM!!! what a joke. rubermaid container only 6-7" high, the straw and the straw bag were covered in gree mold(dried) so it was all over the container. There was enough straw to fill the whole container twice. and they tell you to use it all ? The "mycelium" never spread. the video was old and had nothing to do with the kit itself. And took you from spores to agar to more agar to rye grain then cased in peat. Not the best Tek for a Newbie. Well he got a harvest of the big 0lbs, just a little short of their claim.
When he e mailed them with his whole moldy bag etc. They just e mailed back saying "I hope were all good" "Have a great day"

It never ceases to amaze me how utterly cruel human beings can be to one another. We are all in this together, you know? Why must people lie and cheat others? Especially in an already iniquitous trade! We should all have more honor than this...

ok you all mine is tried and true but i will laugh at this one i don't care what kind of set up you have in a 2 X 3 set up and yeild that said amount in that period of time!!let the clown stop being a get off the and wake up to(reality)

By relic (Relic) on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 06:32 am: The Nook

that's depressing newman
you know, when people offer these 'kits' i've often wonder why they don't just sell people what they really need, a rubbermaid tub, drip sheild, case of half-pints w/ predrilled inoculation holes, a coffee grinder, bag of brown rice, bag of verm, bag of perlite, misting bottle, 2 spore syringes, and a hard copy of the original PF TEK from pf himself.
i've often thought about putting that kit together myself and selling it simply b/c it would be soo easy and no one does it. sporechicks have a pf type kit(are they still in business?) but they don't include the book.
i could put that kit together for around $80 and sell it for $130, buyer pays shipping

By Nan (Nanook) on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 07:02 am: The Nook

Canada... I wish I could tell you how many thousands and thousands of man (and women) hours have gone into developing and testing of PF TEK. Our archives cover every aspect of PF Tek in detail, and we are loaded with step-by-step & photo spreads. All you got to do is read PF Tek then come back here and ask any questions you may have. Look at the Archives. You might start with the Simple Cubie Tek

These guys know about which they speak. The only thing we are selling here is success.

I too was suckered into buying a kit a few years back. I got, a 1/4 spore print, 2 petri dishes, a small bottle of agar, a test tube with about a tablespoon of birdseed in it, a ziplock bag of dirt, a ziplock bag of peatmoss, and a peice of paper that had a paragragh of instructions, all for the now specially marked down price of 220$. I was beside myself in anger.I then bought paul stamets book, mushroom cultivator, and went out and bought all I needed from local stores, spending only about a quarter of what the kit cost me. The only thing I salvaged from the kit, was the spore print, which I figure cost me $220 bucks.
I then got a computer, and found my new family here at Nan's Nook.

Too bad about the kit. Ive grown PF style before and got less than an ounce. I've also grown using the straw tek but it took up too much space. Do casings yield more than cakes? Thanks for all the advice.

By Kaijan (Kaijan) on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 09:03 pm: The Nook

And the help here is always free :)

By quote: (Quote) on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 09:06 pm: The Nook

there's no guarantee that any given casing will yield more than its' equivalent in cakes.
but if things go well, then yes,
a casing will generally out-perform cakes.

Can anyone tell me about dung brothers compost. Maybe you know about the sterile inoc. bags? Pleas help, any at all would be roight on....Are the dung brpthers legit???

By Kaijan (Kaijan) on Sunday, December 16, 2001 - 12:15 am: The Nook

Dung Brothers kits definately work. I've seen the results from many people. They get huge healthy flushes... Monster shrooms.

Ryche recently posted a nice picture of B+'s growing on a DB kit over at the shroomery....huge mushrooms.

Unfortunately I have not had the chance to try out a DB kit...

Also, keep in mind these monsters growing in a DB kit are typically from a clone, not a multispore innoc.

however, there have also been many reports of failure, it's not fool-proof nor guaranteed by any measure.
not for novices, and really not for experts either, as all the ingredients are easily obtained locally for a fraction of the kit cost.

By Kaijan (Kaijan) on Sunday, December 16, 2001 - 07:02 pm: The Nook

Good point.. although nothing is really fool proof in this hobby.

Do you know all the ingredients?

is it just Peat/Verm/Manure/Oyster shells/Lime?

By quote: (Quote) on Sunday, December 16, 2001 - 11:08 pm: The Nook

no, i can't say that i know ryche's 'magic compost' recipe, if you really buy into that hype.
but it is composted manure, mainly, and that is easily obtained locally.

thank you for posting your knowledge it is much appreciated.......

By Shaftd (Shaftd) on Wednesday, December 19, 2001 - 09:37 pm: The Nook

Heylo all. I was skimming through the new products section at the Spore Works and found this thing.

I was just curious if anyone might have used something like this or have a general educated opinion on the viability of such a thing. I assume the yield may be a bit smaller and the price may be a bit steep? I'm sort of intrigued by the convenience of it for an inexperienced hobbiist. Any intelligence would be greatly appreciated.

By mr. mista (Mistabud) on Wednesday, December 19, 2001 - 09:51 pm: The Nook

Ouch....15 bucks a bag??

It's sad there's even a market for such a thing. But, with all the lazy people here in the U.S. today, it's no suprise at all.

But hey, I don't see any reason that it won't grow shrooms though.
I just thought the point of growing, is that you don't have to pay for your shrooms. And your definately paying for them if you buy these things.
IMHO :-)

By relic (Relic) on Thursday, December 20, 2001 - 06:06 am: The Nook

yeah, for the lazy w/ money. almost idiot proof too. just add spores, lol. cheap alternative to kits i guess, lol.

Dung Brother kits, Temporarily taking a break
re-printed from shroomery

by ryche hawk
Posted 12-20-01
The Dung Brothers premium mushroom compost kits are temporarily on hold for the next month. DB is going back to the drawing board to work out a few problems with the grain to avoid any further mishaps to make these kits even better. This will also give him time to get caught up on the back orders. If you have been waiting on an order, not to worry they are being shipped now that new grain has been made. With the holidays upon us the mail system is backed up so please be patient. He literally has a months worth of orders to catch up on due to a really bad batch of grain that caused a lot of problems with kits. So with grain replacements and making new grain and testing it to be sure its 100% effective, it will take a little time and work to get these back orders caught up. Thanks for understanding and your patience.

Please do not send any new orders until further notice.
All orders already post dated up to December 20th will be honored.
Any orders post dated after that will be returned.

The Dung Brothers premium mushroom compost kits will be back once a few adjustments have been made.
You can still access the Dung Brothers Kits page for instructions on your kits. Thanks for understanding as we progress to offer you one of the best mushroom growing kits available.
