Definately... Very sweet. Excellent job there Snoop. Good Tek adaptation. Those PF Hawaiian's are swell fruiters. Keep up the good work!

good job, nice pics. Any data on how heavy the yield was, incidentally?

Nan, yah the hawaiians definately are, I didn't have any growing on cakes, I crumbled all the cakes and cased in straight verm in bread pans as I am sure you can see. But they definately case well, That was my first attempt at casing really and turned out quite nicely.

Craigith: Those EQ's were from To the best of my knowledge fanaticus doesn't support EQ's anymore..

Lichen: Sorry but I didn't really weight out the yeild on those hawaiians. The stems on the Hawaiins are pretty thin so they don't weigh out much. I am drying the EQ's right now.. looks like first flush on 10 cakes will produce 25-27 grams... Should be some good munching.

good job. i have to admit that i have never had my hawaiians grow that large when i add atop verm layer to the flatcake. for some reason mine always grow small when i add the verm layer. How thick did u make the verm layer and when did you add it? i am doing an experiment with puerto ricans now where i add a top and bottom layer of verm when i make the flat cake to see if there is a difference for this particular strain.

Eat: Since it was my first time casing I was sort of guessing, thought it wouldn't hurt to sacrafice one cake for the trial. But the layers where probably about 1/2 an inch on the top and a little bit more on the bottom. I did your suggest and made the verm damp enough so that I could barely squeeze a drop of water out of it. Over all I was quite pleased.. good yeilds for 1 cake.
EAT: Just a question.. when a cake is done fruiting you dunk it and put it back in the terrarium. DO you dunk your casings?? I tried it but it just sort of fell apart. =/

those are just aquarium heaters immersed in water for heat right? is that enough to provide all the heat?

By Brad (Raze) on Tuesday, December 04, 2001 - 03:30 am: The Nook

Is that incubator in a rubbermaid? How do you keep the heat in?
I use a large rubbermaid, with a smaller one inside, filled with water. They sit on the lid of the smaller one. But I'd like to change it, as the temp @ the bottom of th ejars is 85F, and 80F at the top....
Which I presume isnt a godo thing

By Snoopy (Snoopy) on Tuesday, December 04, 2001 - 04:23 am: The Nook

Yep I have the rubbermaid wrapped in a blanket 3 or 4 times to keep the heat in. It doesn't do a awesome job but its better than nothing I suppose. Keeps the heat at a constant 75-78 degrees, where as in my apartment at night it can drop to 68 so better than nothing. I try and find the stryrofoam coolers but no luck... it is winter time so no one has any. But oh well HAPPY SHROOMING! = )

Snoopy, check with a hardware supply. They use styrofoam in the building trade so you can get it in sheets. You can cut the sheets to any size you need. Line the inside and outside with it and I think you can get the temp control you need.
