i'm sure that most of you already know this, but there is a bill before congress right now that, if passed, could greatly increase the govt's power to monitor the internet via e-mail, im's, and who knows how else..... i just wanted to know people's thoughts on this

yeah, but that doesn't mean that in the future they won't have more manpower and when this war is long over and done with.... they will still have the power wouldn't they

Not true. Luckily, there are sunset provisions to the anti-terrorism bill. I believe that bill already passed.

i don't know, i was just "what if'ing" - they said that it was brought before the senate yesterday i think... i'm not sure though

Sure they could do it, protection bill or not. But it still would never be feasable. There is just way too much stuff they'd find on the internet that would need lots more attention to anyone of us. They won't be able to get enough manpower to get to us. But they still could, I suppose.
