Hey one of mine has invitro pinning to small aborts and a whole section hasnt colonized (I'm guessing it may have some bacteria or something), it has been sitting that way for about 2 months. It also has a little green contam...oh well I guess this is more a contam issue. here's a pic anyhow.

I would chuck that jar as far as my eye could see...
If I were you, of course.

OK---three different types of casing teks have been performed.

9er
Flat Cake
and Hongus

With each and everyone--the only thing that seems to sprout are these gnarly white stems (capless)
and twisted and cavorted.

What are some suggested causes? What are some remedies?

Thanks you. There will come a point, where I will also asist in answering members' questions, but it would probably be more beneficial if some experience was gained beforehand :)

Are these Crooked Shrooms?

What race were you trying to grow? Where did you get the spores? Have you used different syringes and always had the same results?

By Pierno Fuller (Pierno) on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 05:22 pm:

Nanook-- there is condensation on all the inside of the translucent blue container. It is misted and fanned three times a day.

The light comes from a lightbulb in the installed in the ceiling of the closet. The blue plastic terrerium is on the floor. The 9r and flat cake beds are surrounded with either duct tape or tin foil thus blocking the light from entering the sides.

Jim Brown: Different strands-same results. It Seems to be an issue of environment-or setup.

Do you know what the floor temp is? Maybe the floor is a little too cool and it's leaching any ambient warmth?

sounds like a bacterial/viral infection to me.
a pic would help diagnosis.

hmmm...

quo- I dont have a pikture --however would the bacteria not be creating somewhat of a stink?

There are a now a couple growing that do have healthy looking caps, howver seemingly smaller than most others grown on cakes.

not all bacteria stink, we're surrounded by them constantly, too, so that's a good thing.
but there are a number of micro-organisms that prey on mushrooms, such as other fungi or viruses, etc.
there's one i'm thinking of, can't remember the name, sorry, that attacks the caps, fairly common in commercial grows.

While making a casing yesterday I noticed something that I had yet to come across. Immediately after opening one of my jars I smelled a kind of orange sour/tart smell. I'm familiar with some smelly contams, but this is not like that. It doesn't really smell all that bad, but it is strong. Anyway, I went ahead and cased it with one other cake and it's just chillin now. Has anyone ever had this before? Is this a contam? When I pick up the casing I can smell it through the verm layer and through the tin foil that's on top. What gives? Thanks all.
