I injected spores into a 1/2 pint jar mixed with honey/ spring water. You can see what looks like spores and a little bit of stuff that I can only describe as fuz. It doesn't appear to be mycelium. That was two weeks ago. Then I tried it again this time I used a 1 pint jar, less honey and unintionaly injected 9 cc's of hawian spores(not on purpose). The only thing in this jar is what looks like spores(it has been over a week). I was sanitary in the whole operation and heated the jars like supposed to. I did not use a pressure cooker or a glove box. What is the deal? Why can't I get anything to grow? The 9 cc's was the last of my spores.

The ratio that i got was 4%. 4ml honey to 96ml water. It doesn't seem like much, but more spells disaster for me. Pc'ing is recomended, 15lbs 30 min.

Bobby, you are not ready for this tek yet. I just want to save you some more heartache... You are not following the directions (pressure cooker and glove box)... And the fact you shot 8cc's of spores by accident...

You are not following the Tek, that is why the jars don't work for you. I suggest you get another syringe and try again with straight PF jars. Straight up PF Tek was made for your equipment and skill level. Try This First.

honey tek is golden brotha! yea it costs a min of $25 at the ***mart for an elcheapo pc that only does 10 psi, but just add 1/3 to the time to get it to _about_ where 15psi gets ya(i add 10-20mins). filter disks are good but ya can sqeek by with polyfilled innnoculation/fillin-up holes if your careful.

sounds like the 1st time u tried it u might have had it. i've seen some pics of good dense results but i only had some sparce growth that looked like somebody took 1/2 a cotton ball n really shreaded it up. pulled that up into a couple of syringes n innoculated the usual pf jars n bingo! success. cant say you will for sure, but ya just have to look at any failures as knowledge gained as what NOT to do, DON'T get frusterated, failures are part of the learning process and I know you will succeed!!! there are a lot of great people here to help, it might take screwin up a few things at first but it will happen n just make the fruits of your labor that more savory!!

Bobby,

What honey:water ratio did you use? Did you steam the jars or pc them and for how long?

Anyone else, has anyone tried to use a 4:96 honey/water solution in the substrate without a pc?

By Bobby (Bobby) on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 - 08:50 pm:

I used 1 tablespoon for 1 pint jar filled with water. In the TEK it talks about the pillow casing pushed into the holes. I did not have any so I avoided this step maybe that is where it went wrong, next time I will use a pressure cooker instead of a steamer.

The reason I am even trying this tek is because I want my PF jars to inoculate at a faster rate. I am still new at this(currently have first batch of jars in terranium) but I pick things up very fast and I am a biology major so I thought I could figure it out. I ordered some more spores and I will try it again when I find a cheap pressure cooker.

Good enough then. Here's some pointers: You don't need pints. Make up smaller batches of 75-100ccs in a 1/2 pint jar. The colonize much faster and they are easier to eyeball. Get some dextrose instead of honey, the clear solution will let you see what is going on.
