Are shrooms good for us? Do they have side-effects? Can we eat them as often as we want?

By Fungusflipper (Fungusflipper) on Wednesday, August 01, 2001 - 11:19 pm:

I think the long term effects of psilocybin are not very well known. But take the McKenna brothers. I suspect they both did ALOT of shrooms over the years, and both were/are still very intelligent and coherent. Terrence is dead of course, but his brother is still around. As far as our other non-brain organs, I suspect Ps. Cubes have some of the same beneficial effects one would find in the other fungi that are eaten.

All just speculation....

A conservative estimate of the number of shrooms I have eaten over the past fifteen years would stagger the mind. In spite of what one might conclude, I'm as good as new. It is a fact that I have been physically damaged by many other drugs I have taken. But shrooms actually feel good for my body.

I suspect that there will never be any conclusive studies on the effects of shrooms. Most people who do shrooms do other drugs as well, prescription or recreational. Conclusive studies would be difficult to say the least.

Maria Sabina died at 97. She started voyaging with our little buddies when She was about 30, and did so on a regular basis. Don't know if She did any other drugs, but considering that Shrooms were sacred to Her I would probably guess no.

Well since we cant digest the fibers, one would suppose shroom fibers benefit us the same way as Musilix (that fibrous cereal). I feel that weekly shroom trips clean my body out internally and give me a better insight to self maintence. I guess you could say shrooms have made me a better lookin guy:-) Shrooms have changed my mental set though. I dont mean moods, but I'm more 'secure' in a way. If I'm swung one way or another (energies), I swing more confidently and it shows in behavior. Hasn't helped in regard to meditation though. Shrooming and meditation dont mix, but after a shroom session it may remind you of why you should meditate. babble babble babble...

Does anyone know if there is a reason to not take allergy medication with psilocin. There are warnings on the back of the packages with regard to moai interactions? Don't know however if this would have any bearing with regard to our little friends?

By nuecrew (Nue) on Monday, November 26, 2001 - 03:37 am:

I'm not a doctor. But...I do know Psilocin and Psilocybin are NOT MAO inhibitors. You have to go way out of your way to get an moai into your system. Allergy medicine warns against maoi's because they can make you very sick in combination. I have taken allergy medicine(psuedephed) with shrooms. It was quite a rush. But not deadly. I should probably wait for a word from quote on this one but thats what I know.
