It may be desirable to run them as normal Usenet newsgroups (I'm not going to take a position on that, but I really doubt the gateways are gone forever) but I would plead to keep the names the same as they are now. Our institution is on both Arpa & Usenet, so we don't want to get such voluminous submissions as the fa. digests twice. Having the name spaces separate makes such classification easy. (Matter of fact, it would break our feeder's distributed B news if he had to list each !fa group separately in our sys file entry. And since the "pers/net" distinction doesn't exist, we had to change the allowed length there to accomodate a site we feed which only wants "hard" newsgroups.) Perhaps the time to change the names might be if and when we undergo the cataclysm of a pers/net name change.
