I find that I often need some sort of musical inspiration in order to "get going" on a project that needs a lot of coding. There are two pieces by Alan Parsons that are particularly good for this: "Secret garden" and "Days in your life". When I am actually coding, I prefer to listen to Beethoven or Bach when I am working on my favourite program. When I am coding something I don't particularly enjoy, I listen to RUSH. My tastes are somewhat eclectic, but what the hell.
