Autzoo.1402 net.general utcsrgv!utzoo!henry Thu Feb 18 17:59:50 1982 replying to news One irksome thing about Usenet is that some people apparently never think of replying to queries etc. by MAIL instead of news. When it's something of general interest, fine, but replying to a query about the PDP12 by news is ridiculous. (I'm not criticizing the reply -- I replied to that one myself -- but the choice of reply medium.) There would be less trash on the news if people used mail more. News program implementors: any news program which has a reply-via-news command should be arranged to make it easier to reply by mail. Either make the mail-reply command an easy one and the news-reply fifteen characters long, or have the news-reply command ask two or three times "Are you SURE you want to reply to the whole network?". Replies and flames on this to decvax!utzoo!henry, please, not to the net. If anybody says anything enlightening, I'll summarize it for the net. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
