Acbosgd.1847 net.general utcsrgv!utzoo!decvax!ucbvax!mhtsa!ihnss!cbosg!cbosgd!mark Thu Jan 14 12:56:21 1982 new newsgroup names In order to put a halt to the name raving, since people seem to listen to me, let me make some dictatorial decrees: The office automation newsgroup will be net.oa. If a need for subgroups arises, you can use net.oa.wordproc, net.oa.hardware, net.oa.software, etc. I suggest you use plain old net.oa for now to see how it works out. I'm also getting tired (as most of you are) of reading cruft in net.general. While you can always say "no" if you run B news, it's still overkill. So: One person proposes a new group to net.general,net.news.group (mention both newsgroups). Any subsequent discussion of the newsgroup name, etc, should go ONLY on net.news.group. New sites should announce to net.news.newsite (please update your README files to indicate that). USENET maps should be posted to net.news.map. The USENET directory will be posted in a few days to net.news.directory. When the USENET version B software is released in a few weeks, it will be posted to newsgroup net.sources. Since this is big, sites with only a 300 baud modem may decide not to get this, especially if they have no intention of using that version of the software. But I encourage anyone running any prerelease of B to switch to the released version when it comes out. (Then again, being somewhat biased, I encourage EVERYONE to switch to that version.)
