A Roman general sent a message back to Caesar (enciphered of course) explaining why his troops were delayed by the river. The message was: AB CDEFG HIJKLM NOP QRSTU VWXYZ. which may be translated: XV QUICK NYMPHS BEG FJORD WALTZ. Sorry about that people but I couldn't resist. It was just pointed out to me that giving the problem as a Caesar cipher would have given the reader more of a chance and would have fit into the problem nicer! I'll remember that the next time.
