Maybe some kind soul could write some sort of checkpointing scheme -- not to save the game across crashes; that would open too many security holes, I'd guess -- but to at least note your current gold content and level, neither or which are updated very often. Then a recovery program could make entries in the score file saying "Killed by a VAX on Level 26", maybe even granting a 10% bonus.
