Since your vt100 does xon-xoff handshaking, this padding really isn't needed anyway. For anyone with a different terminal and the same problem, you can also take off your padding, but it might make vi lose on your terminal. The only suggestions I can offer in the meantime are to run at a lower baud rate, or to make an alternate termcap description for pacman with only the cm changed. Who is the author of this program? I want it too. Is your a.out a pdp-11 or vax, and for which version of UNIX? If pdp-11, does it run split I/D (e.g. what does "file pacman" say?) It might be possible to run it in compatibility mode on a vax. By the way, at USENIX I saw a version of PAC MAN written specifically for the h19 terminal, using their graphics character set. It came from Charles River (or rather, was running on their system). Anyone know anything about this one? Anyone know anything about the upcoming release of the PAC MAN for the home Atari game? Also, to send a binary over indirect uucp links, you can encode it into printing ascii characters, mail those, and decode on the other end. 4.1BSD has programs called uuencode/uudecode for this, Rand also has a pair. An alternative is to use uusend, but all hosts along the path must run it, and it's only in Berkeley UNIX and a few other sites.
