While the shuttle will continue to be the cheapest way of getting things into orbit, the SRB-X, to be built by Boeing Aerospace, will supplement the shuttle flights. It will be designed from shuttle components, and expected to pack the power (and maybe a little more) or the current SRB. After launch, it too will parachute into the ocean and be recovered for reuse.
