It completely contradicts the contention that creatures are the product of intelligent design and creation. In the middle, "And then a miracle occurs" is written. Perhaps this a bad example, but why is that funny? Because scientists aren't supposed to accept unexplained phenomona. One was if research into cell structure showed any level of great complexity. Another was the fact that fossil records weren't really backing him up very well at all. ______________[ higher intellect ]_______________ From Adam.At¯micalÑ2 miles :( (Tue Jun 18 11:11:43 2002): Darwin's theory was proven. Years ago. It's in the science book of today. He went away on a boat for years, learned more than you will ever know, came back, and wrote a book on it. ______________[ higher intellect ]_______________ From Orbis Maximus (Tue Jun 18 11:10:55 2002): Hah. Your argument was just FUD anyway. Until darwin's theory is proven, it remains just another theory; and though it isnt taught very much in public school for political reasons, there are a number of pieces of eviudence that completely fly in the face of darwinian evolution. Therefore, it should NOT be taught to children as if it were fact. All that accomplishes is allowing people who hold the theory dear to sleep easier at night, reassuring themselves that if enough people say it, it must be true. The same line of thinking kept Jesus as a 'ficticious character' in Soviet dictionaries. Atheism really doesnt stand up well to scientific scrutiny. ______________[ higher intellect ]_______________ From Adam.At¯micalÑ2 miles :( (Tue Jun 18 11:06:30 2002): Well the courts of science find you in contempt. Your opinion is rejected, you may now leave the building. ______________[ higher intellect ]_______________ From Orbis Maximus (Tue Jun 18 11:06:03 2002): I disagree. There is geological evidence that there was an enormous flood at one time in human history, and cultures from around the world have their own accounts of it. The geological evidence is incomplete, certainly, but so is the evidence for quite a few theories. Also, a really huge boat from around the correct time was unearthed on a mountaintop just a few years ago. It was on the discover channel. Did you watch the documentary? Don't write off anything from the bible as ridiculous just because you think it sounds funny. Some people don't believe that astronauts really landed on the moon, and that was only 30 years ago. ______________[ higher intellect ]_______________ From can (Tue Jun 18 10:06:03 2002): Adam's got it. In that vein, here's something I've been rolling around for a while... Let's consider reason and emotion. Rocks don't have feelings, nor do heart attacks. If you yell at rock rolling towards you, it will not try to stop; likewise, a failing heart will not fight for life if you tell it to. If a rock is rolling towards you, you may think to get out of the way; likewise, if your heart is failing you, you may think to take Bayer (yeah! cut me some slack, right?). Indeed, if you survive these events, you might think to take precautions against them in the future. If you're dealing with non-human reality, you might be better off investing more in reason than in emotion. What is religion if not emotion? That's not to say it's minor, mind you; ever get so mad you wanted to kill someone? As such, it's not a great way to deal with anything non-human. So it's really a travesty to demand evolution and creationism be taught side-by-side. You're teaching tomorrow's scientists that sometimes, if something doesn't make sense, God will take care of it. Combine that with the politics of religion, and you have the Dark Ages. Sometimes this will be done for you. [Example: The Taliban, Alchita, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, etc...Hitler targeted the Jews, Gypsies, and other non-arian races and groups.] 02 - Be sure the enemy you have chosen is nothing like you. Find obvious differences like race, language, religion, dietary habits, fashion...Emphasize that their soldiers are not doing a job; they are heartless murderers who enjoy killing. [We live in cities, suburbs, and outskirts of booming cities as opposed to a mainly desert-like surrounding in such countries as Saudi Arabia and the like.] 03 - Once these differences are established, continue to reinforce them with all dissemenated information. [There are constant news casts, reports, and information wherever you look on the Taliban and Alchita.] 04 - Have the media broadcast only the ruling parties information. This can be done through state-run media. Remember, in times of conflict, all for-profit media repeats the ruling parties information. Therefore, all for-profit media is state-run. [I have never once heard a viewpoint opposing this 'War on Terrorism' on television. That is because one has never been aired. The media is therefore biased towards our ruling party and thus repeating what they say, whether it is a full-circle view or not.] 05 - Show this enemy in actions that seem strange, militant, or different. Always portray the enemy as non-human, lethal, a killing machine... [No explanation needed.] 06 - Eliminate opposition to the ruling party. Create an 'Us versus Them' mentality, with no room for opinions in between. One that does not support all actions of the ruling party should be considered a traitor. [Bush said it best, and I will quote it: 'You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists.' This viewpoint leaves absolutely NO gray area for viewpoints in between.] 07 - Use nationalistic and or religious symbols and rhetoric to define all actions. This can be achieved by the use of slogans like 'Freedom loving people versus those who hate freedom'. This can also be achieved with the use of flags. [Flags were everywhere you could look after 9-11. Cars have stickerflags, highway overpasses have messages such as 'God Bless America' and other slogans.] 08 - Align all actions with a dominant diety. It is very effective to use terms like 'It is God's will' or 'God bless our nation.' [See above.] 09 - Design propaganda to show that your soldiers have feelings, hopes, families, and loved ones. Make it clear that your soldiers are doing a duty. They do not want or like to kill. [We have welcome home parties for ships that return from service, giving the crew a hero's welcome. In no way are they labeled to be murderous or killers, but hero's and role-models for the rest of us.] 10 - Create an atmosphere of fear and instability. Then, offer the ruling party as the only solution to comfort the public's fears. Remember, the fear of the unknown is ALWAYS the strongest of fears. [Again, I don't think an explanation for this step is necessary. Think for yourself and figure it out.] --- This does not necessarily mean that I believe the Taliban or the related are innocent OR guilty. I believe we are mainly at fault due to our foreign policy, and I believe we are going to shoot ourselves in the foot once again. Sorry for the spam, but I consider this very informational. You can relate these 10 steps to almost EVERY conflict in history. Open a book and find out for yourself. ______________[ higher intellect ]_______________ From Zak - no, you can't download (Mon Jun 17 03:46:40 2002): Saddam is like a rabid dog - needs to be killed before he bites us. ______________[ higher intellect ]_______________ From Adam. At¯micalÑ (Mon Jun 17 03:22:47 2002): We aren't hypocrites. Another matter is the tests themselves - in one case, the 933 mhz single processor G4 outperformed the 800 mhz dual. I can design tests that bring out the best performance in any of the systems tested - in the case of a Distributed.net RC5 keyrate test, the 1 GHz dual G4 would be MUCH faster than any other system in that test. First thing was it wouldn't get past the AppleCD-ROM extension if there was a CD in the drive during bootup, so I took the CD out and it started up fine, then froze when I put it back in. I booted again without the CD in it and noticed that everything was going very slowly. and it still froze hard when I put a CD in it. So I went a searching for some info and something suggested removing the jumper to disable scsi termination, which I tried- and now it boots up fine, but it doesn't see the CD-ROM drive at all.
