i heard that b6 will be out as soon as a major bug is fixed.. 1. how long will it take to fix? 2. what exactly is the problem? Yeah, das right, and I finally squished the little sucker. It runs just peachy now :) Provided no unexpected creepy crawlies materialize, b6 client, server, tracker, and netscrawl will be available on pc.hlserver.com today. >I believe the bug in question is the one that causes Win95 to crash (blue >screen o' death); No, it was a rather more annoying one than that one (which has been fixed as well anyway). Like not being able to open it at all :) >Also... I hope the Hinkmeister fixes the >links to alias (.lnk files) files soon in the server-- Links work properly in both b6 client and server. However, note that windoze links are not as powerful as mac aliases due to the fact that the name MUST end in ".lnk" for it to be considered a valid link. For example, you can't replace your Files folder with a shortcut because you simply cannot name a shortcut "Files" - it has to be named "Files.lnk". The work around is to create a real folder called Files and put your shortcuts inside that. Apart from that limitation, links work well - eg in the server you can put a link to a folder and then in the client the link opens up like a folder (same as the mac version). ____________________________________________________________________ Adam Hinkley, CEO, Hotline Communications Ltd. www.HotlineSW.com Thanks Adam! Just downloaded it... I'll post anything I may find. the only bug i could find was that every time i open the client, only the toolbar is open, and i have to click to open the other windows (i.e. chat, news, etc). is that a known bug, or is it just my computer that it is malfunctioning on? >is that a known bug, or is it just my computer that it is malfunctioning on? It didn't save my prefs either (where the windows were placed) but I don't know how Win95 works like that. The only thing I have found so far is the Quote marks appear as a zero (0) with a hat. Maybe the Mac uses Smart Quotes, and that should be changed to normal quotes so the PC does not have to translate them. ------------------------------------------------------------------- It didn't save where the windows were placed or it didn't save the visibility? (which ones were on the screen when you quit and which ones were hidden) Yeah, the O character is the mac smart quotes displayed using the windoze extended character set. That will be fixed. ____________________________________________________________________ Adam Hinkley, CEO, Hotline Communications Ltd. www.HotlineSW.com Example: Getting client information on 0Circe0 so what? that's just how the code works in the tasks window i think you can live with the funny quotes around the person's name I think it's a known bug uNo; does it to me all the time. Very irritating but at least the system doesn't crash over it. >>the only bug i could find was that every time i open the client, only the >>toolbar is open, and i have to click to open the other windows (i.e. chat, >>news, etc). > >That happens EVERY time you open it up? > >It only happens to me occaisionally. > >I think it happens because if you hold down the shift key on startup, >Hotline opens without showing any windows except for the toolbar (this is >useful if you're remote controlling a machine with timbuktu and don't >want to wait for all the windows to draw). > >So for some reason it thinks the shift key is being held down even when >it's not... > >How do you open the app? Double-clicking? Open command? Context menu? >>Shortcut? > >i open it using an MS explorer 4 concept, where the shortcut is actually on >the start menu.. Explorer 4? Win98? You can have shortcuts in the start menu on 95 as well. Not sure what you mean. Maybe a screenshot would explain it :) What happens if you open it normally, just by double-clicking the EXE and not a shortcut? ____________________________________________________________________ Adam Hinkley, CEO, Hotline Communications Ltd. www.HotlineSW.com >>the only bug i could find was that every time i open the client, only the >>toolbar is open, and i have to click to open the other windows (i.e. chat, >>news, etc). I have had this happen to me by directly double-clicking on the App also. >>Happened to me last night too. Adam, Happened to me again last night when I was the ONLY one on the server; I was downloading a large graphic file (which completed sucessfully), stepped away for a bit (45 minutes), and when I returned and did a mouse action (to disconnect and quit the client) I received the blue screen o' death. Aargh!
