Aucf-cs.317 net.unix-wizards utcsrgv!utzoo!decvax!duke!ucf-cs!whm Thu Jan 21 01:42:48 1982 UNIX 3.0 I heard a bunch of talk about UNIX 3.0 on the Vax, but it might be enlightening if someone who is familiar with 3.0 could present some advantages of running it rather than 3.0. >From what I've heard, 3.0 seems like an effort to "commercialize" Unix across many machines, but it seems to me that for educational institutions, Berkeley Unix is the clear choice and will remain so. (I say this not from experience, but rather from the observation that most people appear to be planning to stay with 4.xbsd). Is it true that 3.0 and 4.0 do not page? This would seem like a terrible drawback to me. Does Bell plan to incorporate paging in the future? OOPS--Line three should read "....rather than Berkeley Unix?"
