I do most of my birding in and around metropolitan Toronto: Lake Ontario shoreline, parks, ravines, rivers, woodlots and "marshes". Big news here right now is the weather. Last week's cold resulted in heavy casualties among Tree Swallows and Purple Martins. Seems both the migration and appearance of wildflowers is at least a week behind schedule--waterfowl at Pelee look more like late March than mid-April. A question: does anybody have any experience or opinions on the Zeiss Jena 8x30 compact binoculars? They look quite similar to the Carl Zeiss model and are a bit cheaper. Optics are great and they "feel" good, but the neck strap is attached in such a way that it interferes with viewing. Dunno, maybe my nose is too big, but when looking through them, I have to fiddle with the ends of the straps to keep them from getting in the way. Has anybody else run into this problem?
