We had the misfortune to select the Florida Data BNY to fill the bill. It has wonderful specs (600CPS, 128 dot/inch graphics, 2-pass mode) but is the most unreliable computer peripheral of any kind that I have ever seen (including hobbyist junk). Alas, we have 5 of them; most of the time at least 1 is down. The paper motor transistors go up in smoke every other month (literally); heads burn out at an amazing rate; and there were several design errors that WE had to find (the serial interface doesn't work right). Their telephone support is lousy. To add to the mess, Florida Data service is worthless. Stuff comes back broken worse than it was sent, and turnaround is abysmal (we sent a unit for repair [the Florida Data serviceman couldn't fix it after 2 calls] in January; it's not back yet). ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
