This tribe was of interest to a certain anthropologist, who also happened to be a Rabbi. So the Rabbi travelled to the land of the Trids to live with them and to study their social customs. One of the Trids' oddest custom was the ritual performed every evening, wherein the whole tribe would line up single-file and walk past the Chief, who would then kick each one. For some strange reason the Trids seemed to enjoy this activity. This piqued the interest of the Rabbi, who wondered what could be so enjoyable about a kick in the shins, so he boldly got in line to be kicked. After a time he got to the head of the line and prepared to receive his kick, but the Chief merely looked at him, smiled, and said, "Silly Rabbi, kicks are for Trids!". ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
