When the young one arrived, he immediatety raced to the elder one, prepared to tear him to shreads. The elder one was most distressed about this, and protested to the yonger one. The violence, he maintained, was senseless. The loser of the contest would most likely die, while the victor would be bloody and sore for a long time. There were even cases where both opponents had died. In lieu of this fighting, proposed the old one, why not have a race. Surely that could be used to determine mastery of the chicken yard. The young rooster, who was not eager to be maimed for life, saw the wisdom in his words, and agreed. The elder rooster proposed three times around the barn would be a suitable length for the race. Both roosters agreed that if they lost they would depart peacefully. The elder rooster had one more condition: since the other was so much younger than he, he wanted 1/2 the length of the barn as a head start. The younger rooster thought about that, but feeling confident, (cocky, you might say) he agreed to the final condition. And so the race began. After once around the barn, the old rooster was only slightly ahead of the younger one, who was gaining fast. The second time around, the old rooster was huffing and puffing but still was ahead of the younger one. But when they were almost three times around the young rooster made a move to the outside and was just passing the old rooster when there was a tremendous BANG!!!! Down dropped the young rooster --- dead. The farmer, holding a still smoking shotgun, shook his head as he walked to the chicken yard. "I just dont understand it." he muttered. "I bought three roosters this week....every one of them gay!"
