A good question to ask oneself is, "Would I feel comfortable telling this joke in the presence of the person or persons that the joke is about?" As an example, I don't think any reasonable person could imagine telling a joke about Natalie Wood's recent death in the presence her family. Similarly, although Jim Brady would doubtless be game for a little good-natured ribbing, I don't think either of the two recent jokes about him would fall into that category. Uwvax!greg walks into a doctor's office: "Doctor, doctor, it hurts when I read offensive jokes!", he says. "Well then, don't read them!", replies the doctor. (I don't think James Brady could even \understand/ the jokes about him, so no problem. Similarly, jokes don't travel well under water.) ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
