There is just no room in the schedule format for 50% more talks. However, having expanded vendor presentations would be nice, and being able to interact with the /usr/group members would be very benificial. There are (at least) two possibilities. 1) Goto overlapped presentations ala larger conferences with technical talks at the same time as commercial/vendor talks. Thus, it would be possible to see a pure set of USENIX talks, or one could take in /u/g presentations of individual interest. This allows maximum interaction between the two groups. 2) Ask /usr/group to do like Software Tools and plan their conference just before or after USENIX. Vendors could stay around and people interested in both groups could overlap one or more days. As I recall, the board discussed this subject in a meeting I did not attend (due to some BOF), but I do not remember any summary of that discussion during the daily presentations. If this is all correct, I too would disagree with the board committing us to a joint conference. If someone is seriously upset with the board on this (or some other) matter, I have my USENIX officer nominations form handy and would be pleased to nominate anyone willing to put in the necessary time! - James Ellis ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
