The command >9 will shift lines from the current one to whereever you get by doing 9 's, i.e., 9 lines farther down. Therefore, that command will shift the next ten lines, including the one you're on, just as the doctor ordered. If you said >10 then yours does eleven lines and is wrong. The usual form of the command would be 10>> but that's an extra character...
