BY A MODULAR UNIX I MEAN THE FOLLOWING: THE KERNEL IS PARTITIONED INTO SEGMENTS. THE MAIN SEGMENT, WHICH HAS THE ABILITY TO LOAD OTHER SEGMENTS, IS RESIDENT IN THE MEMORY OF A PROCESSOR DESIGNATED THE "MASTER CONTROL HOST". THE REMAINDER OF THE KERNEL CONSISTS OF SMALLER LOADABLE SEGMENTS, WHICH ARE DISTRIBUTED AMONG SEVERAL SATELLITE PROCESSORS. THESE SMALLER SEGMENTS COULD BE THE DEVICE DRIVERS AND THE SYSTEM CALLS. ULTIMATELY, SUCH A SYSTEM WOULD BE DYNAMICALLY RECONFIGURABLE, INCLUDING MIGRATION OF THE MASTER CONTROL HOST.
