However, we are attempting to address these issues with a new integrated video management system for Multics. Basically, all functions of terminal control, input and output, and even screen window management are handled by the video system. Other programs such as the command processor and the editor (Emacs) will or already do use this system to get their work done. The result so far has been a great increase in functionality and compatability of input processing in Multics subsystems. All calls to the I/O system to read a line invoke the same line editor.
