An interesting solution to the problem of secure, short distance two-way communications is to use a CB. Yep, thats right, a CB. This trick, for informational purposes only, the FCC frowns on people who actually do this, is to take your plain, old fashioned CB transceiver and convert it to a secure channel. The easiest way to do this is to examine a list of CB frequencies in the 27 MHz frequency fange. Now cross reference this list with a listing of radio control frequencies (for model cars and airplanes) that share the same 27 MHz band. You will notice there are several channels available for RC purposes that do not appear on the CB list. If one was to take an RC cr^g:al and place it in one's CB unit.... The only people who would be able to receive this transmission would be your other half, or other bootleggers since the channel is NOT used for voice communication. This makes an average CB unit into a fairly secure piece of communications gear for very little investment (especially if you card the stuff). Of course, you would not want to operate your "new" unit near a field where people were flying model airplanes.... ****************************************************************************** * Call DSF Devestator (214) 581-7565 AE/BBS //e, //c, and //gs wares * * * * A member of the Deep Space Fleet * ******************************************************************************
